Well, we’ve just had an election to be fair. We’ll start talking about beer and sausages again soon

A mate sent me this - couldn’t stop laughing at the headline. US media never fail to amaze me.

I wonder what the Fox headline would be

Does anyone in the US even understand the meaning of the word?

Love that author’s name. I wouldn’t allow anyone to shorten it, if it were mine. In fact I think we may have a ‘new’ poster coming our way:
Dietrich Schulze-Marmeling

I love the fact that both barrels of his surname are quite close to different German words for jam.

Short answer, no. That said, I don’t think the Brits are as enlightened as they think they are either. I’ve seen many, even several on this forum, use socialism wrong. Especially people of a certain age.

I stay out of these discussions as I grew up in a very particular oppressive time in Germany. One that will thankfully never happen again. My own views are shaped by the time.

I don’t know about the rest of the country, but things are really getting back to normal here in Berlin. Everybody’s out and about, going to bars and restaurants. Mauerpark was full yesterday despite the weather.
Expecting Tante Käthe pub to be crowded for our matches this week.

The topic has now been dealt with for the time being, Jo was tested positive for covid 19 yesterday. He was still not vaccinated.

The last surviving member of the Miracle of Bern world cup winners, Horst Eckel has sadly passed away. RIP

He once told the Lauter city magazine “insider” the story of a contract offer from England. “We played against Preston North End and after the game the club superiors asked me to speak. I listened to everything and then said no. What should I have done as a young man in England? I could have bought half Vogelbach from the offer.”

The offer would have brought Eckel the enormous one-time payment of 150,000 D-Marks and 6,000 D-Marks monthly salary. Eckel reported that Fritz and Ottmar Walter also received such offers from England. You could even have earned 10,000 DM a month in the motherland of football. But they preferred to stay loyal to their home club, 1. FC Kaiserslautern. And because Eckel valued the company of the Walter brothers, he stayed in the Palatinate, where he continued to earn 320 marks a month for his cross runs and goals.

Historic day in Germany.

There are a lot of things that you can criticise Merkel for, but in my lifetime I’ve lived under the following leaders: Thatcher, Major, Kohl, Schröder and her, and she’s been the best.

Good luck to the new government. They have plenty on their plate.

As an outsider, I would say I probably disagree with her politics but cannot disagree with her leadership.

Clever boy.
