It’s okay, they deal with queues over there by dismembering them.

Currently in California. I was in LA - not my favorite place, people go nuts over it but I struggle to see past the ridiculous traffic. I’ve now moved up the coast for a little r&r with Mrs ROTW. We are staying at a hotel on the cliff tops near to Pismo Beach. Scenery is spectacular. Never been to this part of California and it is so beautiful.

Great hiking, coastal walks, spectacular bluffs, large waves crashing in, quaint little towns, wineries, mountains and so on. Lovely drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to get here. We’ve been watching whales going up the coast as apparently it’s something of a migratory path for them.

Food has been delightful, a lovely combination of lower/higher end… when we stop I try to find a small Mexican place to get two tacos - carne asada and shrimp. They double stack them in these little corn tortillas and they are so tasty. Then with a nice sit down meal we have been enjoying lovely seafood, which is abundant and fresh.

I’m a Brit, an expat, and I’m saddened by so much of what I see in the news. People ask me a bit more frequently these days what in the world America has to offer, and for me it’s stuff like this. Beauty. Landscape. Vastness. Wildlife. And the people we have met and talked to along the way have been lovely. A beer here and there with a taco or two. Then later on some nice seafood and a glass of wine. Pelicans are flying by, and tomorrow we are going to a beach that apparently has hundreds of elephant seals. I’ve only seen them with David Attenborough on the tv, and they are big units, can’t wait.

Have had a fairly laid back holiday in Croatia for an early & shortish summer break.Spent a couple of days in Dubrovnik before heading to Korcula for a few days of lazing about and then on to Split tomorrow. Weather has been great which make exploring the smaller islands between the 2 cities fabulous. A beautiful part of the world.

This is the Howe Sound, couple hours drive from my door. Taking in a relaxing moment before what will be a busy weekend.

What you going to show us next? Your branded watch?

Think you have the wrong idea here. I don’t wear a watch, much less a brand. Most of my clothes are plain, no labels. We are an ordinary, humble family.

Just trying to find my way through this world, raise my kid to be kind and appreciate how lucky we are to live where there is clean water.

When I traveled through your town, I stayed on Syed Alwi, not at Raffles.

It’s always a risk when you make references to other jokes in other threads. There were fun posts pointing out the shoes and watches the players were wearing…so I thought…but I thought wrongly…

Thats a shame. From what i remember previous Expos in Japan have been well liked.

Perhaps the reviewer isnt used to a host population being as interested in the event as it is in Japan?

I can well imagine that it isn’t organized to meet the needs of non-Japanese visitors. Most places in Japan aren’t, although it is better now than it used to be.

In addition, the designers apparently didn’t take into account that it can rain in Japan. There were some heavy rainstorms in April and people complained that the open wooden ring surrounding the site offered no shelter from the rain.

Anyway, one of my daughters went there last weekend and she was quite impressed with it. Maybe I’ll go in September just before it finishes. There should be fewer people there then and the organizers should have got the hang of it after a few months practice.
