Get lost and find yourself! The Travel Thread

December '99,spent the day on it.Barely a soul there yet an unbelievable beautiful spot.

May 03, ex-wife and I were on our honeymoon and snuck around the corner from the group we were with to Hill Inlet. Only 10 of us on the whole beach so we had some quiet time to ourselves

Spending a few days on hols in Florida, before daughter goes back to England to spend a few months there. Nice family time.

Today we went for scallops. Drove up the coast, gulf side, rented a boat that comes with captain and first mate. It was a father and son and they were pros. They take you way out into the gulf, but it is surprisingly shallow where the scallop beds are. Spent the day snorkeling, diving for scallops, and just enjoying the sunshine and the marine life.

Saw a big sting ray and almost shit myself, as I went down for a scallop, grabbed it, put it in my net, and I was inches away from the sting ray and didn’t see it. He shook the sand off and darted away.

Fortunately we didn’t see any bull sharks. Nasty bastards those ones, especially the juveniles. We all had to wear ankle tags that gave out a little electromagnetic pulse, as apparently the sharks don’t like it and stay away. After 140 years in the area with no shark attacks (according to the captain) a girl was attacked recently. Fortunately she survived but lost her leg. We were out in the gulf, ready to go and getting our gear on, when the captain told us this delightful anecdote.

Needless to say wife and daughter just did a little, but me and the lad were having a competition to catch our fill. He just turned 16 and is athletic as you like, so whisper it quietly, but I think he had his old dad beat.

They shuck them at the dock when you come in, and we just ate a scallop feast at the rental place. Fresh, melt in your mouth, sweet, salty, delicious.

Daughter just graduated and we wanted to make some memories before life sort of moves on.

Did a weekend trip to the Gulf Islands, you’re looking at a picture of Active Pass which is a main ferry route between Vancouver and Victoria. 30+ ferries take this route daily and they are required to sound their horn when entering the pass.

Was supposed to visit Canada oast week and see my mum’s sisters. However, unforseen circumstances with my refused travel document on my UK passport has complicated things.
Although, my Canadian Permanent Residence card expired, i am still classified as a Canadian permanent resident. So, have to sort this out.

On the positive side, my work colleagues wanted me to get out the house, have invited me to the Great British Beer Festival  today

Only thing is i don’t drink beer :joy: will go though, can’t turn them down, they are really kind people.

Because of taste or alcohol? I’m informed that there are some really great alcohol-free beers out there…

am certain the ciders, wines and gin’s will get you through the day

Both! On my way to Olympia.

There are loads of food stalls there too. So, will try them out and non-alcoholic ones too.

Tbh prefer cuppa tea

Where are you staying, do you have a car? So much to do!

Not everybody drinks like us

Week in London at the end of August for us. Reigned in the serious travel till next year. Looking forward to arguing with nutters at Speakers’ Corner, museums and galleries, paying £10 for a pint and the epic pizza counter in Harrods (now that’s a first world treat)

Mrs has booked tickets for Hamilton. Shit……

Will be in Leicester for the first 4 days, after that, will plan according to suggestions and recommendations. Yes I will have a car.

Spent sunday and monday at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. This years Fleadh is being held in Mullingar where they expect to see more than half a million visitors to a town with a population of 20 thousand. As usual the pubs and hotels were teeming with Trad bands all day with revellers from all over the world enjoying the music and dancing and of course the few drinks.
The main street and others coming off it are closed for the week as they are are jampacked with people, young, old and families all there to watch street performers, musicians and dancers.
Every country will have it own version of our Fleadh Cheoil and it’s a great way to spend your weeks holiday without the need for long delays, looking for luggage or standing in line at immigration.

Where abouts exactly do you live now?

South Africa

Safari parks are out then . Will put something together for you later
