I hear this. just had my father-in-law visiting with one of his friends for a “bucket list” 10-day stay with at our home. they rented motorcycles and did some touring. I was surprised as to how much bacardi those two could pack away though, my word.
Have you seen it? It really is very good.
Not live. Seen the live recordings and heard the music. Really not keen. Love good musical theatre but rapping founding fathers? Give me sad french peasants any day!
Fair enough. I suspect the recorded version (with the original cast) is likely better than any live production these days so if you’ve seen that and genuinely didnt like it then it sounds like you’re in for 3 hours of shite
If you’ve no choice but to spend three weeks in Germany, how would you divvy it up?
I’ve spent time in Berlin and Hamburg, so excluding those, preferably.
I’m fine with long distances, and I like small towns as well as busy cities, and I fucking love a good canal.
Cologne is a brilliant city, some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met on a night out (and I’m aware you’re partial to a drink). The cathedral is spectacular, and there’s quite a few football teams in the vicinity to get to a couple of games.
Thought I read wrongly…
I’ve mentioned this in the Germany thread, but I’m currently planning a big-city fortnight (mainly due to the ICE connections on the way to Praha), going through Köln, Berlin, München, and Frankfurt. Probably not the best way to do it.
There’s just so many places that I’ve read about, that I would love to do if I had more time, e.g. Halle, Dresden, Schwarzwald, the Bayern-Österreich border.
Spent the week in Valencia. Great time at the beach. Good food. Hot nights (not only temperature wise ).
City has some nice places but doesn’t get close to my favorite European City Lisbon.
Find it a bit annoying that most people from holiday areas in Spain, France and Italy don’t speak English (because they don’t learn it in school).
Mentioned previously that I’ll be going for the Brighton game on 01/10/22. What’s the best transport options for getting to Anfield from Leicester and return after game?
Went there on a school trip as a kid. Cathedral (at night lit in green) looked like it had risen from hell. Thought that was brilliant!
Anyone know anywhere nice to stop for a night or two on the drive between San Antonio and New Orleans (not Houston)? Is Lafayette alright?
Also, anywhere worth visiting in Mississippi or Alabama, or should I go directly from New Orleans to Atlanta?
I’m “just about passing white”, if that makes a difference.
What a sad state of affairs it is that, in this day and age, the colour of one’s skin still defines where one can and cannot travel.
I’d go directly from San Antonio to Atlanta! Be interested to hear your thoughts on NO. Drove a similar route years ago, have fun and stay safe. Don’t stay in a nice hotel in Pensecola, you’ll end up in an argument with Canadians at the pool bar (HOW?) blaming you for starting WW2.
It all depends what you want to do. I had a great time in Alabama playing a few courses on the Robert Trent Jones golf trail.
Some people travel to say they’ve been there and seen it. Others have a reason to go. A friend, relative, sports team, concert, event and so on.
To my mind I don’t like Atlanta. Tons of traffic. A big downtown area and then another big downtown area a bit further along the I-75. Both seemed geared for business and not much else. Atlanta, for me, is an airport hub, or a concrete jungle to get past, on the way to the beach in Florida!
I’ve never been to New Orleans but people tell me it’s a nice place to go for a weekend, good music, good food, a few drinks, nice vibe, but wouldn’t want to live there if that makes sense.
Makes Blackpool look upmarket and chic.
hi, let me make a call to a friend in Texas. I’ve heard Galveston is a nice coastal resort town just south of Houston with a carnival on the pier. I’m a fan or New Orleans and its hospitality, don’t skip it just be mindful of where you are in the city.
one of my schoolmates just relocated his familty to Georgia, near West Point Lake which is supposed to be pretty nice spot to relax on the way to Atlanta.
have a friend traveling right now with his son, popped into this building on his quest to the arctic circle
Who knows this one?
Who is going to Berlin for holidays?
Thanks for the replies, lads.
I’m heading to San Antonio to visit a friend, but I don’t start work until September (NYC) and skulking around my in-laws’ house in snowy Buffalo since I arrived in November is making me strange. Can’t watch anymore afternoon judge shows.
Anyway, the idea is to stay on the road mid-April to mid-August, get to know the new country before my life is completely obliterated by NYC rental prices. I don’t have much of a plan, beyond starting in San Antonio, but I’m thinking of heading across to and up the East coast. I like the look of Savannah and Charleston, in particular, but I have a fair amount of time to kill so not every stop has to be five star.
I’d like to see Tennessee, and the Kentucky whiskey trail, but I might stay east of the Appalachians for now. Any other tips would be good.
