interesting. Friend of mine married a Yank and they (he) was first posted in Buffalo where they spent a few years. now they’re in Wilmington, NC and love it. I’ll go visit in a few years.
as for places to go see back there, I’ve no idea. been to NYC and Boston briefly (work and play but many years ago) and didn’t really venture too far from the CBD’s due to lack of time. I loved N’awlins when I visited there and Miami was fun to have a penthouse for a night enroute to a cruise but other than that I’ve seen fuck all.
If it were me, Fly to LA, pick up a car and drive across. Exactly what we did. Could write a book on it. Or from where you are, loop West to San Diego, go North to Disneyland, Vegas, Colorado and get lost. Durango is amazing, stay at the Historic Franklin. Given the time and opportunity you have, go see the whole country.
Before New Orleans? Not really. If your destination is Atlanta you can stay on I10 past New Orlenas until you get to the Panhandle and try Gulf Shores or the nearby Destin if you want a nice beach town, then head up to Atlanta on I85. But honestly that’s a road trip that is far more about your destination than the sights in my experience (I did Florida to Brownsville/Matamoros several years back).
EDIT: I say from later comments that Atlanta was just thrown out there and not a real destination. I’d say there are lots of better ways to spend your sightseeing time than exploring the I10 trail. If you get up into Whisky country some of the driving through the Tennessee and Kentucky portions of the Blue Ridge is fantastic and a part of Appalachia that gets overlooked.
Galactic Starcruiser hotel to close in September in WDW. Only cost a Billion. Predicted this when the pricing originally came out. $6,000 for a family of 4 for 2 nights to stay in a room smaller and less well equipped than a Hampton Inn. You own Starwars, you theme everything round Starwars, not the shit YOU made afterwards Disney. Apparently you can’t even buy a Darth Vader in Galaxy’s Edge. KK insanity.
We’ve had a mess of a year and so other than an occasional weekend getaway, 2 of which were for weddings and that doesnt really count, me and my partner havent had a holiday this year. Southwest airlines had a big sale the other week and so my partner jumped on it decided we were taking a few days off in early December and bought us tickets to Bozeman Montana so we could go to Yellowstone.
Turns out the Montana/Wyoming wilderness isnt very accessible in December and while the park isnt technically closed it does come with a “come, but you might die” warning. So she’s now trying to cancel the tickets
She grew up in Buffalo and rural Ontario (Madawaska). If we wanted to spend hard earned time off work in the snow in the middle of no where we would just go and visit her parents.
For me though, I’d definitely need to at least buy a new pair of outdoor shoes.
