my friends parents live on acreage in Ennis, I’ve heard stories of how tough the conditions can get. hard pass on December. I don’t think the river thaws until April?
Sir yes sir! Reporting for duty sir!
What do you want to know? I
It depends if you’re lookin for party time, enjoying scenery…
Nah, Feb is a bit dull and murky usually. Try to visit it in a spring (May is great!) our autumn time (right now we’re enjoying lovely Indian summer. Temps up to 26 degrees, even sea at 23 degress.
I’m piggybacking on a work trip for the Mrs, so the date are set for late Feb. prob 4 days. Been a part of the world I wouldn’t get a lot of opportunities to visit so not wanting to pass it up.
Oh, I understand.
- You can go skiing then, sky slopes (Kranjska Gora, Rogla, etc) are about 60-90 mins from Ljubljana.
- You can visit towns by the sea side (Portorose is our micro “Monte Carlo”, then you have tiny fishing town Izola, old but lovely Piran), 60 mins from Ljubljana as well.
- You can also visit our famous wineries and try different sorts of wines if that’s your thing.
- You can visit lake Bled with it’s tiny island and have a nice walk around the lake and nice meal afterwards in one of the hotels around the lake.
- There’s also a lot of hills if you like hiking, but don’t really know how viable it is during winter time.
But in Ljubljana itself February is a bit boring, nothing’s really happening.
Slovenia is tiny… in 4 hours you can go from most eastern to most western point. You can visit our highest mountain Triglav (2864m) in the morning and go swimming in the sea in the afternoon.

what a great part of the world. will have to see if we’re bringing our son, will determine a lot of my time there.
Yeah, it’s a nice pocket country. Croatia is very nice as well (I don’t want to piss off Zoran ). Almost everybody can find something to do here.
There are caves as well:
Than there’s stud farm (with our famous horses) with golf course and brand new hotel:

if it were a bit warmer, I’d bring my fly rod and search out some trout. don’t want to pack that heavy though.
Extend it for a week or two.
Yellowstone is a must, when you get the chance.
A few years ago we got a cabin in between Yellowstone and Grand Teton, and mostly did the former. Spectacular.
Incredible scenery and hiking. We saw grizzly bears, wolves, loads of bison, and numerous smaller creatures. The geothermal features were really interesting to an old A level Geology student too.
On this forum I have often commented on the dodgy side of being an expat living in America. The politics is ridiculous, and the cost of good healthcare is a scam.
But leaving aside the bad aspects of it all, the one thing this place has that continues to astound is wildlife and amazing scenery. I had the day off today and was enjoying it with my wife as we sat under a willow tree in our garden, planning our next adventure.
America is nuts, and there are many problems here.
But the diversity of wildlife I regularly see (just today we were walking our dogs when 4 deer ran across the path in the countryside in front of us) and the spectacular landscapes, of all kinds, are the best part of this country.
Defo. Take Florida. On the one hand I hate it (mrs loves it) on the other there’s wildlife everywhere, aligators, snapper turtles, ospreys, dolphins.
Just took a trip up to Alaska, amazing. Was in a small town and in a tree in someone’s garden was a bald eagle’s nest. 2 bald eagles perched next to it.
The mrs and I take our trips now on the chances of seeing wildlife. Old fogies eh?
America is a beautiful country, ruined by the people. Same as everywhere, really.
He was not a number… He was a free man :0)
Any ideas of places to visit? I need to find myself!
I spend half the time looking at places on youtube, but never go there!
What do you like? Scenery or culture? Warm or cool? Active or relaxing?
Europe or farther afield?
Off the top of my head - Sicily, Skye, Crete

Not Ecuador, Papua New Guinea, Yemen
Just come to Singapore, it’s so fucking small and boring that you will have so much time to find yourself.
