After a year of insane processing times, my US passport finally arrived yesterday. I’ve been locked down for the best part of a year after giving up my other travel documents as part of my naturalization process last spring. My missus has already pseudobooked 2 different trips
MY question though is about Christmas markets. She saw one on telly this year and would love to see one so we’re thinking of trying to do Christmas back in the UK this year with a stop somewhere on the continent for a few days to do a market (presumably Germany?). Does anyone have any advice on any that are somewhere worth taking a couple of days detour to check out?
As someone who has lived in Germany for 30 years I am sorry to say that I hate Weihnachtsmärkte.
They come in two types: Cheap, vulgar and tacky, or Overpriced, kitsch and tasteless.
In order to relieve the boredom everyone drinks lots of Glühwein which is like drinking a headache in a paper cup.
Meanwhile you are subjected to cacophonous Weihnachtslieder which are guaranteed to make you bring up your Weisswurst and Glühwein.
I am basically an all rounder, abit of everything. I can sit on the beach for about a day and that’s it, but i do like island scenery and seeing the culture of the islands. I am definitely not an extreme sports person, don’t mind walks/hikes on scenic trails
At this moment in time. I don’t think i can do long haul flights. I had cabin fever on flying up to Glasgow in October, but there was alot delays that day.
I have been to Crete, but wouldn’t mind seeing it again. Sicily sounds nice. Thanks.
Btw, what’s wrong with Ecuador? I have been invited there actually, my friend is teaching out there until June 2025. The reason i would go there if i do, is to see the Galapagos Islands, once in my life.
I was whatasApping my friend, she said, she was teaching ‘virtually’ all week. No wonder! She said a gang leader disappeared from prison, then there was some fighting between government forces and some drug gangs.
She is hoping to finish her contract by 2025, if conditions are become better. She also finding the humidity difficult to deal with.
