Golf! What a great way to 'waste' 4 hours

I’ll give you three basic ways:

  1. Travel
  2. Land which could be rewilded being used for the entertainment of the few
  3. Unnecessary use of water to keep courses green.

Yeah, lost in all this discussion is the money the DP “European” Tour was already taking from Gulf States. They have already gone around the world chasing money. The money from Qatar and UAE doesn’t have quite the same Khashoggi or 9/11 avenues for criticism that some lobbed at the LIV, but the conversation is about something much bigger than those specific issues.

Travel? oh god.

let’s reforest all the sports parks in the world too. all those fields of grass need to be “re-wilded” back to forest, as they’re just used for sports. Let’s start with those pesky football pitches, shall we? unnecessary use of water to keep the pitches green.

the shit I read on this forums, makes me shake my head.

You could pass it by, with a modicum of manners.
Not like you don’t post the odd piece of shit yourself

want to really discuss climate change? Let’s talk about consumerism.

What really fuels climate change is society’s perceived need for a booming economy, which is very much reliant on the massive amount of transportation and logistics. trucking companies, highways and MASSIVE amounts of fuel to deliver goods across the world.

As a society, so much of what we earn is spent on the taxation of our income combined with the taxes on goods purchased, which has huge amounts of incurred costs due to carbon taxes in the fuel which is burned by the vehicles who transport it.

all of these taxes get funnelled into the government coffers who spend this money like it’s water through our fingers, and some of it even goes towards “fighting climate change” which is an irony which should confound us all.

How our species survived before the advent of the internal combustion engine, is anyone’s guess.

No
I dont want to talk about climate change.
You really missed the point.

By drilling holes onto the ground, toxic gases escaped into the air we breathe and somemore they drill 18 holes every where!!!

I swear I also hear the sounds of fury from hell in the 18th hole at Augusta Golf club. Might have drilled too deep

I only live a long par 5 distance from the most famous golf course in the world, and would wager they use less water per year than at Anfield.

Interesting format, and quite entertaining.
Obviously the women teeing off from a forward tee, and only fair that they do, but many of them doing well so far.

Canadian Open.
Stuck a tenner on Tyrell Hatton when he was 4 back at 150/1.
Got greedy and refused the £430 cash out, willing Tommy Fleetwood to fail to get birdies.
Canadian lad scraped in to take the clubhouse lead, now rooting for Fleetwood.

Edit:- He’s just knocked it stiff at 17, he’s winning it :grinning:

St Andrews? Well I wouldn’t assume it needs much water it’s also a links golf. Unless you are close to Augusta which I’d probably agree to disagree on, saying that it doesn’t have to be massively maintained for most of the year.

I assume Augusta does not to mention pretty much any of them in the Middle East in itself.

Regardless the argument stands, the planet is hotting up these places will need more and more resources the hotter it gets that goes for pretty much every sport that’s outside bar perhaps hard court tennis. And we’ve seen what temps do to that with the fact they lost several hours on a few US Open days last year.

Meanwhile the actual infrastructure of these countries isn’t even considered as important by the ruling families they’d rather buy support through sport.

I dont disagree.
My point was, same arguments could be used about football, but doesn’t suit.

quite a back-story to this. Another Canadian PGA player (one of Taylor’s friends, Adam Hadwin) was watching the playoff holes and when Taylor won, he stormed the green with a bottle of champagne to celebrate with his friend. Subsequently gets speared by security

Anyhow US Open.

Blumenthal noted that PIF, with assets of more than $700 billion, was created by the Saudi Arabian monarchy and operated by a board under the guidance of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who will serve as chairman of the new golf entity, is one of Bin Salman’s close friends and confidants.

“PGA Tour’s agreement with PIF regarding LIV Golf raises concerns about the Saudi government’s role in influencing this effort and the risks posed by a foreign government entity assuming control over a cherished American institution,” Blumenthal wrote. “PIF has announced that it intends to use investments in sports to further the Saudi government’s strategic objectives.”

Lazy day off today, just what the doctor ordered. Ordered Chinese takeaway last night, way too much of it, so that’s dinner sorted today, with a microwave. Cold beer in the fridge and a nice afternoon/evening of golf is lined up.

US Open, round three. Rory in contention, and Ricky Fowler leading the way - nice to see him back after losing his way for a while.
