Completely agree that it makes a nice change to watch the best in the world struggle. The rough is so punishing at Oakmont, and the greens are treacherous.
I play off 8 and when the majors are on I sometimes try to imagine what I would shoot on their course in those conditions. I think this one would be the highest number, and a rough guess at my over/under, trying to be realistic, would be 110. A double bogey on every hole would be 106. Just need to avoid stupid numbers I suppose. Would love to try it.
Stayed up to watch this, what a finish.
Well done JJ.
Tough luck on Bob McIntyre, he did so well.
I think the weather delay messed up Adam Scott, would love to have seen him win it.
Had Cam Young E/W so £100 up.
Notice not much being made of the ludicrous decision by 2 match officials to not give Burns relief.
That water was way more than casual
As a Yank, I was rooting for JJ. Wanted an LA native, and person of color to win this, on this particular weekend, just to fly another big, fat middle finger into the flabby, orange fuckās face!
JJ Spaun has type 1 diabetes and that was something that connected to our family, as our 18 year old son was diagnosed with it a couple years ago. He rapidly lost a ton of weight and had no energy, and as a pretty good footballer he sort of fell out of love with playing at the time. Since then he has been on an automated insulin pump, his grades picked up dramatically, and in August he is going to college and is planning to play footy again for them. Not a high level, smaller college, but Iām pleased heās got some zeal back after being in an undiagnosed fog for a while.
Well done JJ Spaun. It started horribly for him in the final round, but he rallied and never fell away, and then at the end that huge putt and the birdies got him over the line. Unlucky MacIntyre too, I hope he features at the sharp end in future majors.
Yes, but he was diagnosed some years ago, after feeling worn out and not himself, with Type 2. It wasnāt until a couple years later, when things werenāt improving much, that they found he had been misdiagnosed, and actually had Type 1.
He is a real underdog story. Not a country club baby, who went to special schools, or academies growing up. Walked on at San Diego State, and became one of their all-time greatest golfers.
Played a golf club match play tie last night on the Old Course.
As always, we were asked if weād allow visitors to join us.
2 blokes in their 60ās joined us, one 5 handicap and one a club pro from Florida.
Nice blokes, very courteous and quiet ( not typical American visitors ).
The pro said it was his lifetime dream.
Oh, and i won 3&2
