Aye. He frustrates and amazes in equal measure for me. With his game he should be competitive, at the worst. Today’s round he just couldn’t get going, and missed lots of puts pushing it right.
The par five near the end saw a big drive. It’s a fairly easy birdie chance but Rory pulled it way left, then could only hack out into the sand. With a very awkward stance he chopped it out nicely, but then two-putted for bogey. That’s borderline criminal, given his game.
But that’s why he is so compelling. The highs and the lows are all there, and as you say, it would be no surprise whatsoever if he shot the lights out tomorrow and got back into contention.

Just woke up to the news about De Chambeau getting a 2 stroke penalty.
Seen the footage now and can’t see how he could even attempt to dispute the penalty.
Whether it was intentional or not (it looked intentional to me), it most definitely improved the swing path for his backswing.
What a fucking dope.

Not sure it was deliberate but was clumsy and careless. The penalty was completely fair.
You’ve obviously both only seen the one clip, where he made a practice swing, realised that the club contacted the large clump of grass on the backswing. He then stepped back for a look and made an exagerated step onto the clump to flatten it.
I saw another clip this morning where the volunteer showed him where his ball was, DeChambeau then proceeded to shuffle his feet all over the shorter grass directly behind his ball.
