Thanks - notice how the last 3 notes are different to the tab I found.
Ill have a listen and see what sounds correct.
LOVE the song!!
Owned an acoustic for a while and only ever really played Stairway until hearing the VVD song a few years ago. Liked it so much I found the original — Pogues version was good, but the Dubliners version blew me away. Easy enough to play with 5 verses all the same structure, tuning normal.
(G) I met my love by the gasworks wall,
(C) Dreamed a dream by the old canal,
(G) Kissed my girl by the factory wall,
(D) Dirty old town, (Em) dirty old town.
@Nikola i had taken a break from the This Sacrament solo and my goodness today…even though it was a bit dirty…I brew through it at faster than the song’s standard tempo (at 132 Bpm)…the feeling is indescribable!!
Haha, honestly stoked for you, mate! For me, unfortunately, it’s been ages since I last genuinely practiced (I was going to do my worst to learn Electric Eye) and it will be like that for a while… So, keep practicing for the both of us!
By the way, did you do it on your own or with the help of an instructor (I think you mentioned having one)? In any case, it’s an amazing, amazing achievement, you know how much I love Loomis.
ive hit a wall in terms of learning.
not sure whether its the wall, long covid or the andropause (causes huge brain fog) which i am going to doctors about next week but i cannot seem to retain anything new and it takes me hours to get anything new down no matter how simple - thats if i dont give up.
The first person that popped up in my mind after seeing this was Bootsy Collins - I genuinely don’t know much about bass playing or the bassists but I’ve always thought he was the king of that instrument. I imagine him going to Heaven one day and providing the soundtrack for it!
Timebox it. No more than 45 mins a day. Consistency is key. As I’m sure you know, learning parts isn’t linear. Some days you make no progress whatsoever. But a day or two later you have it down clean
I have a teacher but for this song I did it all by myself. Btw Loomis has his own YouTube channel and he helped a lot as he has a proper breakdown of the solo.
So you could say Jeff Loomis was my teacher for this
@Walshy07 also something that works is focus rotation. Pick another song you’ve been meaning to learn. Then when you feel more inspired, come back to the previous song. You’ll find that you’ve gotten better!
Bought this and a small amp for $100. Kid will eventually play it. In meantime, dad is gonna rock out
Cheap Stagg unit. Not sure if the tone dials even work. But whatever
There are great deals to be had on second hand but excellent quality gear on Facebook groups.
Also, while price generally indicates quality, that’s not really always the case. Something cheap can feel and sound great!
must resist buying this with bonus…
They have it on Ebay in Nebular Green but the Purple is stunning.
Im starting to learn soloing now and Ibanez’s are great for solos.
I fully understand you, Walshy! I’m forlornly gazing at one LTD Snakebyte - not a fan of signature models, mainly because they are signature models of people who can actually play the guitar but this is much stronger than me. This particular guitar is beautiful, it’s the black version, mint condition, comes with a case and is made in South Korea.
The owner dropped the price yesterday, it’s almost half of the new, so will be sold pretty soon… My mate tripped over himself to inform me of the price drop on every possible communication channel and is doing his best to convince me to pull the trigger. I imagine that this is how ladies feel when there are expensive shoes and handbags available at a discount, and my wife agrees, haha!
As for Ibanez, yeah, it’s stunning (though I’m a fan of single cuts and offset shapes). I’ve checked the specs and read that the Internet says it’s made in Japan - enough said, it doesn’t get better than that.
