To be fair it’s no longer 20/21 either… I’m sure the player threads will get updated someone near the end of pre-season for the coming year.
Yeah, it’s @Nikola’s baby
Expecting him to go out on loan again. More likely now but maybe in January.
Squad is just too big even if it gets trimmed and we don’t bring in new players.
It was said he wouldn’t be going on loan when he extended his deal. I’d say he’s currently 5th or 6th in line for the front 3 (depending on Ox) and Origi, Shaqiri and Minamino would all be considered for sales or loans ahead of him.
Good write-up on him
Last season Ox was injured and Taki went on loan.
Jota was out for 3-4 months and Salah, Firmino and Mané also missed games with injuries and COVID.
Divock, our clear and obvious 5th choice attacker - a senior player, was involved in just 17 games with 540 minutes.
Can not see Harvey get enough games and minutes here or a lot would have to happen to give him minutes
- very good domestic cup runs
- we would have to be very successful in general to be able to give Elliott opportunities.
- 5 subs in the PL (think Clubs will vote on it again)
Can not see it and I think he’ll go on loan.
This is where your logic falls down. Origi wasn’t used because he wasn’t good enough for Klopp to want to use him not because there wasn’t enough playing time.
Ah, so 18yo Harvey Elliott is already better than, Origi, Ox or Minamino.
Better or not / ready for first team football or not but he will be ‘trusted’ more than Origi, Ox or Minamino because the potential is there?
When games are tight (which they are in 95% of them) Klopp (who doesn’t make many changes and doesn’t take many risks in general) will bring on Harvey Elliott?
Harvey Elliott might be good but he is no Mbappe.
Can imagine that many fans are hoping for our own Sancho, Mount, Smith-Rowe, Foden but he is still far off.
Being talented and having the potential is one thing but it depends on a lot more like luck, right time right place, staying injury free etc etc.
I’d be very careful here with Harvey Elliott. Might end up like Brewster or Ben Woodburn - at least the hype is on a similar level.
Yes.
Yes (he has actually already been used by us before his loan).
Yes.
Doesn’t have to be.
They were all at this point like Elliott at one point around the same age. He could be at that level but even if not would still be a good option.
True.
He’s more the level of Alexander-Arnold, Gomez and Jones than those others if comparing.
I wouldn’t be suprised if he calls on Elliott this season,he doesn’t have to be Mbappe (although we wish he could be) and we don’t expect him to be,all Elliott has to do is be the equal or slightly better than Origi,Minamino and Ox,which tbh, judging by how all 3 of those played for us last season when called upon, giving Elliott game time and experience by using him over the other 3,would be a bonus for him and us in the long run.
We will play a minimum of 46 games, that’s over 12,000 mins for all three attackers combined. Surely Elliott can get a 1000-1200 mins out of that.
You are forgetting that we are losing Mane, Salah and Keita to the AFCon cup this winter. He will get a chance if he stays. But, I agree with you. I think it is too soon for him - he is better off going on loan again and getting regular first team football.
Salah will play in the Arab Cup as well.
I’d have him stay in Liverpool this season. Just needs to get rid of his haircut
I think his current hair style is fine. Better than the top knot thingy.
He’s now in some sort of anime hero mode with his hairstyle.
So, Elliott in midfield. Do we start thinking about it as an actual possible thing for the coming season, or is it just part of his education and a small experiment?
My guess is that depends entirely how he performs in the role in the near term. From what I’ve seen of his skill set it makes quite a bit of sense to try out.
The lad impressed me during the 45 minutes yesterday. His passing was excellent most of the time, his close control and technique were fantastic and he always managed to find ways to bring either Trent or Mo into play. As a result, that right side provided a lot of good moves during the first half. On the defensive side, he managed to snatch the ball and break down Hertha moves several times.
All in all an excellent display in my book, in a yet unfamiliar position for him. Really encouraging.
