No big deal, perhaps he looked good at the start, we were eager to see if he can translate it to games. His Inter away performance wasn’t good. Since then, other midfielders have simply remained fit and raised their form. He’s young, he doesn’t need to be guaranteed games all the time at this stage of his career in one of the world’s best sides. Stay fit, have a good pre-season and kick on.
In my mind Elliot offers is more of a spark/energy/unpredictability. It comes with its downsides too. But with creativity of our fullbacks suffering due to fatigue. A more creative (rather than solid) type player in midfield I think might be beneficial.
Jones is primarily a left sided 8 and Elliot a right sided 8. Keita is at his best in Elliot’s position and he’s a much better player at this point. I don’t see Elliot getting a look in again until next season.
I thought Jones looked much better when Henderson came on, for me its a bit strange Elliott played for the u23’s twice recently but only 45 minutes im sure, are we protecting him?
Same. They are both very talented. And we have Carvalho to come in yet too. Even if one of the three becomes a stalwart in our team, that would be a success.
Considering Jones hasn’t played for a month I thought he did well, the midfield was gash until Hendo came on tbh.
Regarding Elliot I agree with ILLOK doubt we see him till next season, my gut feeling is Klopp is playing a bit of tough love with him expecting him to put in the hours over summer and claim his place in the pre-seaosn.
Yeah comparing him with what Thiago offers is a bit false, our CM was poor until Henderson grabbed some semblance of control, they did very little until the couple in the second, one before and one after, before that they seemed to be cutting us open too easily.
I thought that Elliot and Jones were both brilliant yesterday night, in their respective nr. 8 roles. They showed that they are credible squad members at this stage for us.
Never would I have expected this from Elliot at the start of this season, and being at this stage now again, after such a horrific injury, is even more stunning. Hopefully he’ll stay fit now for a consistent period of time, fingers crossed!
