Harvey ELLIOTT: 2021/22

Err Elliott has a huge fan here I was on that band wagon a lot longer than most! He’s also coming into the squad in an area of the squad we have plenty of numbers and not an area that needed recruitment unless a lot of outgoings happened first. Talking 2/3 out and 1 in level of recruitment.

Nope Klopp had referenced resources too often to not be inferring we don’t have them.

The bench isn’t that strong, at least not in attack. We have 4 great options (although worries regarding form for 2 of them) for 3 positions. After that our options are awful till kids like Gordon, Clarke and Cannonier break through (which may be a few more seasons) or we buy. Loads of attacking players are better than Minamino and Origi.

He shed Moreno because there was a club willing to pay what we thought he was worth. He can’t get rid of players without someone buying them.

And this recruitment team won’t bring in overrated and overpriced trash. When they have the resources provided to them they bring in good talent. There’s been good talent moving or available but not moved (yet) this window. It’s nonsense to say nobody out there could have improved us.

I don’t think he’s lacking confidence, but I see what you mean.
I wonder if this idea that he’s an assist machine in the making might be a somewhat restrictive definition.

I’d be more than happy in his new role if he’s a key pass machine, that pass that leads to the assist that Alonso used to be a specialist in from a bit deeper in a different set up. He’s already started with that with that chested down ball he played to Trent who then looped it over onto Mane to score.

Although in that case Elliott was wide and Trent central Elliotts new role in CM makes him perfect for feeding the wide FBs and wide forwards for them to play the assists others finish. Sure he’ll pick up a few assists and goals in that role for himself too though.

It feels like that’s tactical in a way that we might see regularly now? Maybe with Elliott not being too bad on the wing himself, we could see the 3 of them regularly interchanging, with Salah taking up deeper, more central roles so it’s easier for him to spot his buddies and feed them that ball so he can get it back quickly as he rampages through the box, or they can score.

Once his interlinking with Salah and Trent improves that side is going look something special to be fair.

This guy was potential but he is starting in these last 12 months to show it’s more.

It really got me thinking unless we signed an understudy to Salah or Mane it was pretty difficult to look where you would buy.

Salah and Mane both can play middle along with Jota in Firmino’s role and the obvious target would be Sarr but the problem in that is he would also go off to the AFCON in Feb.

We are going look short for that period but I would assume they have a plan for that period.

Harvey moving forward would be one such option and Minimino another. Shame Kostas is on the left as you’d also have the option of moving Trent forward.

Guess we will see

Anyhow Harvey is not the finished article but he is now at a club which has been his dreams and he is starting at 18, imagine what heights he could actually get too, we’ve potentially got 14-15 years of someone who could rise very high and he has cost very little.

I thought he should have come off in the second half. Once the game had settled into that awful Chelsea-static-bloodyminded defensive stage, his inexperience started to matter. He didn’t seem to have a clear idea of what he was supposed to be doing after his first option was shut down. Very frequently, the space created by ball movement would evaporate when the ball reached him, and he would have to circulate it back out, restarting the cycle.

That said, I am incredibly excited to see what he can develop into, and the last 35 minutes against a top opponent committed to holding the draw is incredibly valuable experience, so we may reap the benefit soon enough. A young player of his quality is likely replaying those decision moments in his mind.

My exact thoughts, word for word. His inexperience shows in decision making with the ball, sometimes it’s a pass that is played too early and sometimes way too late. Perhaps Alcantara and Keita should have both been introduced earlier. That said, he seems hell bent on becoming the best player he can be, so I have no doubts that this is one area he will focus on.

He’s also given several indicators that he is happy with the squad and believes the market should be a last resort. Which you believe depends on your existing biases.

Klopp will never say he is unhappy with players, that’s never been something he’s ever done or would do. Behind the scenes maybe but not to the press. And he’s always believed the market should be the last resort meaning when a need is enough for him to actually mention it several times over several conferences then we should recognise that as a need he definitely wants addressing.

Think I am correct that only 3 subs are permitted and as 1 had already been used there were much more important subs to make. Elliot was physically good even if tiring mentally. We needed imo to change the dynamics on the left. Robbo needed changing well before he was, Hendo looked as if he was tiring however we know he will allways give it his all however for me Fabs wasn’t contributing enough. So, my pennies worth on the subs is that I felt Thiago or Keita needed to come on for Fabs. Add to that Klopp doesn’t like to use all his subs (keeps one just in case) subbing Elliott imo was out of the question.
Just 3 games in these situations will arrive.
The thing we do agree on is the midfield needed refreshing which Klopp addressed bringing on Thiago it’s just who Thiago should have come on for that we question.

I think he will be moved to the front sooner or later. Firmino seems to have a serious injury, and Mane has been horrible. I can see Salah being moved to the centre, and Harvey to the right or even to the left. Not to mention AFCON.

Horse putucky.

Sure Klopp isn’t going to sit in a presser and say ‘My midfielders are all made of glass and Divock couldn’t hit the side of a barn door’

But equally he isn’t going to sit in a presser dropping tiny hints that he secretly wants a player but John won’t buy him one and he wants to the let the fans secretly know without making it obvious he’s doing it so that he isn’t sacked by the board.

Klopp wants a player he will tell them we need to strengthen here or here, and there will be a conversation about the money available, the plans to extend contracts, the suitability of players, the availability of players, the plans for next summer.

If he’s unhaply with what they’re telling him he is going to let them know, to their faces, not in allusions now and again in pressers like a kidknap victim.

Yes, he looked very much like the junior lad playing with the bigger boys in the second half. He was deferring to his more senior colleagues and playing 2 or 3 yard passes to the left or the right, not really adding a huge amount.

All things being equal I think he would have come off but the match fitness of both Henderson and Robertson was obviously an issue and JK was holding subs back for when they tired.

Great prospect though. There is some magic happening on that right hand side between him, Trent and Mo.

And what 18yo doesn’t go through this?

The only wa for them to learn is to be playing regularly and prefferably against opposition that are of a higher standard so that they learn to solve problems on the pitch.

Yes I know. It’s not a criticism. It’s an observation.

This touches on something that, for me, isn’t exclusive to young Elliott IMO. Our final ball at times is awful, forced or simply not on, or the right option. The problems we had against Chelsea in the second half we’ve seen numerous times before and I think the answer lies in some tactical changes on our approach play.

I only saw the second half of the Chelsea game and Elliott’s pressing in particular was excellent IMO. He was responsible for winning the ball back early on numerous occasions. I agree on what happened next needs work.

Early indications are that the injury is relatively minor and Firmino is likely to be out for only 3 weeks.

Mane had a rough spell last season but in the final 10 games he dug in and I think scored 5 goals which helped us over the line. He has one already this season and but for the handball by Chelsea would have already had a second.

So what your basically saying is that we should believe Klopp when he says something that supports your argument, but ignore him when he says something that supports mine.

Right.

He’s pulled out of the U21s with an injury.

Hopefully nothing serious

Atleast we signed players for rotation
