Sell to a team where he will be a starter most matches…with a buyback clause. I think in two season of regular top-flight football, he can get to Macca’s level, maybe more.
It’s a weird comparison with Mac as they’re not the same position. In terms of quality though, he’s quite behind that level. Mac was performing as one of Europe’s finest CM’s in the last months. I still think it’s not 100% that Harvey leaves this summer (might depend on the market, his motivation and talks with Slot), we will still need a certain depth in the squad in forward areas. Maybe one more season to try and prove himself (in which he might need to have a little run like Jones in the spring of 2023). Contract until 2027 though.
I think we need to let it go. A good performance in an u21 tournament is not going to change the fact that it’s over for him here.
He is a really good player caught in difficult situation. He is too good to be playing the bit part role he has, but not good enough to get into this team.
There is no reason why he can’t get the game time he used to get under Klopp, unless Slot isn’t planning to rotate again, or he wants to be a regular starter.
He is a fine squad option, who can contribute either from the bench or from the start in certain games.
I get for his own sake he wont want another season like last year’s and one reading of the Wirtz signing makes it look even more of a challenge for game time next year. But it’s important to remember he turned 22 only a few weeks ago. When you compare to someone like David Silva, he has more appearances for us at this age than Silva had for Valencia at the same age.
22 is young, but it’s also old enough that if he really wants to teach his potential he needs to be playing regularly.
I don’t think Silva would have reached his potential between the ages 22-24 playing a couple of games a season and the domestic cups.
Make no mistake he was playing against top players who play in the top leagues for top teams. I really felt sorry for him as when he comes back to Liverpool he will either have to go on loan with a big team in Germany or Italy or just as someone said already do the same type of deal as Quansah.
He was playing last night against the likes of Hato who we’ve been linked to CB positions
He’s also not quick enough to play wide right for us nor does he have the physical requirements to play midfield.
I like the lad. Clearly cares a lot and has bags of talent but after all his years here I still don’t see what his natural position is in our 4-3-3 style set up.
One of those where it’s probably best for both parties that he move on this summer. Gives him a chance to kick on that he’s just not going to get here by the looks of things and we capitalise on him having a great tournament.
To be honest, I think he should get another season. If he wants it.
His physical development might just kick on, giving him the stamina to be part of our style.
He is very talented, and if he was with another team we would be linked with him.
Yes I was a bit sceptic about our interest in signing him especially after I saw Elliott skin him a few times.
Well I think Harvey is top notch with his feet. Some question marks were about speed and strength. Both of which can be worked on. Especially the strength. And he can be more clever with his positioning so that the speed isn’t as much of an issue if he plays in midfield (for example, Macca isn’t the fastest). And that comes with game time experience.
Point is, don’t think that should have any bearing on our judgement of Hato. Elliott can do that to the best.
Personally i would play him as cf, sell nunez , there is no way Elliott misses half of those sitters nunez misses
Actually what IS his best position on the pitch?
He’d probably be our smallest ever CF.
Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.
That may be his problem for us.
He will achieve a higher level with regular playing time, just at the moment we don’t seem willing to give him that time.
It is rare that a player of Harvey’s type has his ultimate role and playing identity fully locked down at 22. At that age Gini was still a goal scoring attacking mid. We still have these questions about Dom. Silva, a player who is often held up as what he should look to emulate, was shifting between 10 and LW before settling into a more game controlling mid later in this career
Someone is getting a potentially great player in him - the club that buys him will have done their homework on him and will have already decided where to use him best, even if it means a change of position.
I’m just saddened that it won’t be at Liverpool because he loves the club and cares about it so much. I wonder if some buy-back deal can be arranged (hi, @Kopstar ) but maybe it’s just not meant to be for him at Liverpool.
Elliott scored four goals during this tournament so there should be lots of interest in him.
Like I said i think the Bundesliga would be perfect for him. Not sure if he can be compared to Xavi Simons in playing style but I think Harvey would be on that level rightaway.
I feel Harvey has all the same tools physically as Macca, both being short and not the fastest.
The difference is on the mental side, as Macca enjoys getting stuck in and relishes the defensive physical battle
Harvey works just as hard gets in position to challenge but then lacks Maccas aggression, nous and tackling ability.
I wished it was Macca that had taken Harvey under is wing rather than Mo, if you get my drift.
