Harvey ELLIOTT: 2024/25

Harvey tracks back and has shown aggression.
Don’t know where you are coming frpm

In last years, I see he has bulked up and also improved his finishing. You can see Mo’s influence in that. Up to discussion if those are the areas he had to focus on, but hey, your doors are open for improvements in any aspects. I don’t see it as a problem if sometimes he plays as #10 and sometimes in the right half space. He’s not being asked to play LB. Thing is, some of our most important (or soon to be) players cover those positions. However, I don’t see the need to compare him with Mac because that’s an entire zone deeper on the pitch, Harvey doesn’t play there and most probably never will.

As I said he works hard, you can’t knock his effort. But his aggression is nowhere near Maccas, when it comes to tackling or challenging for the ball, he lacks Macca’s bit of mongrel, some players just have it, Mascherano had it.

He still has time on his hands to develop further.

Why are we comparing Harvey to one of the best midfielders in the world that plays a completely different position?

I’m not.
I think he has a future at the club.
My argument was that he shows aggression and attitude.

Because they are similar on height, good technically and both lack pace.

Also, under Klopp, Harvey primarily played an 8 role and under Slot it has also been in Szobs position an advanced number 8.

He does but not when tackling

Ok
We disagree.
Fuck it, leave it there.
Unless we have a poll that asks if he’s aggressive when tackling.

You are an agressive fucker

Yep
Same as Harvey.

When Macca was Harvey’s age, he was really only beginning his time with Brighton where he spent another 2/3 years before we decided to go with him. Harvey has plenty of time to fulfil his potential, he just needs to be given games. If we can’t see ourselves doing this then we should find somewhere for him to do so. If given regular 90 minute games I doubt we’d have to wait long before seeing an excellent player emerge.

The interesting thing about Maca is that despite “only” landing at Brighton he was identified as a big talent before he left Argentina, getting a couple of caps in friendlies. It would take him 2-3 years of additional development at Brighton before he’d get another call up though, but Argentina were already watching him closely from the beginning. That’s more or less where it feels Harvey is. That development wont come if he’s limited to 2 starts and limited time off the bench. It might with 10 starts and a collection of 20-30 minute cameos.

Which isn’t far from what he was getting before Slot’s arrival, so it’s not as if there are not enough matches to spread around.

Also, it won’t make the best of impressions to up-and-coming talents, if two of our brightest prospects are gone within the same window due to lack of playing time.

That’s not how it works. Liverpool will give you chances, but if it doesn’t work we’ll find you a good move.

That’s is going to be a lot more attractive than we’ll keep indefinitely while you aren’t making the team because we’re scared you might come good on someone else’s watch.

I don’t think that any young player would be naive enough to think that.

It used to look like that.
Trouble is we have a different manager who 'works with a small group’s this implies that things are going to change. We saw last season that ‘chances’ are fewer and further between and the patience levels aren’t the same.
Will we become a buying club?

In a perfect world, I think we’d all like to keep him, but the lad wants to be playing week in, week out. He hardly got a sniff last season and with the signing of Flo, it’s highly likely that his opportunity for game time will reduce further still.

Hate to say it but financially it makes sense to sell him now after his performances at the tournament.

One year left on his contract next summer and with Wirtz in I doubt he’ll get more game time than he got last season.

Doubt it would be much more than £20m next year while we’re probably talking about £45m now.

yep and throw in a 20% sell on clause and it’s a good option for him and us.
