Harvey ELLIOTT: 2025/26 (on loan to Aston Villa)

Thing is, his contract at Liverpool would only have a year left, so there wouldn’t be much sense in us trying to keep him and negotiating a new contract/future with him… on the basis of what?

So I would guess he would still prefer to leave (even if Slot isn’t here anymore), play football (especially after the season he’s having and it might not change) and settle somewhere.

Fair enough I’m just thinking the lad wouldn’t want for effort even if we got someone who could keep up the pressure when bringing off the likes of Hugo, Wirtz and Dom who we have to manage. Saw it against Marseille to be honest.

Chiesa can’t do that, more like they a thigh strain.

It’s disgraceful the way he’s been treated by Villa. Both clubs should’ve found a way for him to return to Liverpool.

as he starts the night for Villa

if Harvey was to return this window,

is he now cup tied and cant be named in our champs league squad?

Why do I think this is on purpose?

No.

Playing him in games they dont care about in competitions that dont count against the trigger needed to activate the purchase clause. If you ignore the callousness of it all, its a pretty smart move.

We probably told them we wouldn’t pay the fee to release hence.

Here’s a rarity.

I don’t think Slot wanted him back going on how he spoke about him a few weeks back.

I wonder if Slot actually noticed the state of our squad, the other night. Injuries are piling up, with more to come probably. Harvey is our player, at the end of the day and we need reinforcements.

It’s a bit of an assumption that if Slot gave the nod, Hughes would click his fingers and get Harvey back.

I thought Elliot had a pretty good game - particularly for someone who hasn’t played much at all. If he stays fit, I think he will do really well (as a starter or a rotation player) for whichever team he plays for.

He touch was always good and he linked up with their wide player pretty well. He had a chance to score but blazed high and wide - on another day that goes in and you never know…

He definitely looked better in red!

In Paris coming in late to seal the win  :smiling_face_with_tear:

I don’t believe I made that specific assumption.

You started by asking if Slot had noticed to state of the squad?

The Elliot situation is one where it’s probably a lot more complicated behind the scenes that we will ever understand, but yet it feels to us fans such an obvious no brainer. Our default is going to be to suggest incompetence, but I think it’s just really complicated.

I thought there would be some brinkmanship over the fees and wages, but common sense would prevail and he’d be back late in the window.

That doesn’t look likely, and the fact that he played the other night makes me wonder if the blocker is that Villa don’t want to release him.

Villa are still in 3 competitions, and 2 of those are both a distant lesser priority than the league and are games that dont count towards triggering the purchase clause. It’s possible that with as impacted by injury as they are they are willing to use Elliott for those games to give his preferred squad some rest for the more important league games.
