Harvey Elliott (M/AM) to Villa, apparently (initial loan)

If our interest in Rogers is true then I see these as probably linked deals. You get Elliott on loan with a reasonable buy option, which allows Villa to get around their PSR issues, and we lay the groundwork for a move for Rogers in 2026 for probably around double the Elliott fee.

It should give Elliot a chance of being picked for the England squad if he goes to Villa and gets regular minutes. He is unlikely to get much game time with us this season, and I guess we owe him that opportunity if nothing else

£35 million? I think we’ve done Villa a bit of a favour.

Maybe they’re going to do us one back sooner rather than later.

Yes, but at the same time we are doing Harvey a favour. He wanted to go, he wants the game time, and the club doesn’t usually stand in the way when somebody wants out. Particularly when the player is someone who has given his all for the club.

Good luck, Harvey. I hope you make the England World Cup squad.

That fee does seem low but good luck to Harvey. Great player with a great attitude. I wish him the best.

I don’t think Harvey particularly wanted to leave. He just needs to play, he’s too good to be on the bench every game. Good luck to him.

Long term replacement for McGinn.

We might have done them a favour because we’ll be taking Rogers from them next season when it’s time for them to pay up!

Doesn’t do much for us this season though.

I get that maybe Slot doesn’t fancy him and he wants to play more but on the back of a good Euro U21s I’d have rather him stuck around and tried to impress than us loan him out with a fairly modest future fee.

Good luck to the lad but an odd decision by us. Guess Nyoni gets any minutes that would have come Harvey’s way this season.

Good for the lad, getting him exposed to first team football again was priority…keeping him around would’ve only further hampered his value and development, what else is the club supposed to do with a player that the manager doesn’t want?

I’m sure we’ve stuck in a cheeky £5m loan fee in there that’ll stay undisclosed.

Aye, 100% agree with this. £35m is a pittance in this crazy player market. Not sure what is the interest to do that.

Good move for Elliott. He made it clear he loves LFC and everything about the place. That connection will never be in doubt and he will always get a great reception. But the issue is playing time, and he is on the periphery of Slot’s thoughts.

Villa are a very good team, upper Prem, Europa sort of level with an outside shot at CL this season. I’m backing Harvey Elliott to do well there.

As for the fee, it seems low, which tells me there were no other clubs coming in at £40-50M. It also looks like a bit of maneuvering for a future Rogers deal, which seems good business. We do Villa a solid now, and down the line they will be much easier to deal with for one of their star men than the Newcastle saga we have all just endured.

Would assume they’ve paid a fee to take him on loan now so value of the deal overall would be higher.

What’s the rationale for a loan with obligation to buy, rather than just buying him?

Loan is idle he can’t play against us.

They probably can’t afford it now.
