I’ll have a bitter please...It’s the Everton thread

In 76 we still had ‘friendly’ Derbies. Nowadays, I notice a greater police presence on cerain game days (the Ev, Citoil, Utd etc) than say when we play BHA or Norwich. Would the team we were playing that weekend be a factor in whether the game and GN were allowed to clash?:nerd_face:

Ipswich 1-0 Ruddock penalty I’m pretty sure it was national day, 12pm kickoff I think it 11am, love to see Klopp if they suggested 11am now

My memory isn’t ropey after all, 11.30am kick off so pretty much right.

National would have been around 3.15pm those days so I would assume the 5.15pm start is ok for 12.30pm kick off

I was at that match and it was definitely at Anfield. I was 11 and it was two days after my birthday. Only went cos my mum was about 30 mins too late to get us a semi-final ticket in the Liverpool end. Shudder.

And then go to Aintree…thru’ an old gate and walk down to Beeches…sandwiches and a flask of tea…and wait for the big race…the 3’ oclock train used to pull up at the same time…and the LFC team used to be in the Aintree stands.

No, I don’t think so. It would be just to avoid a clash between the two events, because of the resources involved and traffic congestion etc. If I remember correctly, the kick off time for the Everton game was 11.30 that day.

You are right as even in my mind I remember the awful away kit wednesday were wearing - some sort of awful green monstrosity.

There are two things I remember about that game

  1. Wednesday playing in green, which was really weird.

  2. My mum talking to a lad on the Kop that she’d tried to get us tickets for the semi, and him replying that she’d done the right thing, cos Hillsborough was always trouble and he wouldn’t take a kid. He said he wasn’t really looking forward to it. Still wonder if he got out OK.

Fuck that is grim.

It’s funny the things you remember though, as I also remember an oddly serious handshake between Barnes and Beardsley after one of the goals…“Jolly good play, sir.”

On Grand National day back then, it was one of the only Saturday games with an early kick-off

My first ever game at Anfield was on April 9th 1994 v Ipswich.

I am 99% sure that kicked off early at 11.30am because of the grand national was on the same day

This was my first game
