Think they say…the pitch is not UEFA size…
And I don’t wether it’s correct…but the Manc ground doesn’t have a ‘central entrance from the stands’.
I believe that apart from Everton and Fulham, two other very old stadiums, we have the shortest pitch in the Premier League. I can’t believe there is such a variance in allowable pitch sizes.
It’s a historic thing. Our stadium was originally used in the early 1880s. To lengthen it would involve moving the Kop or Anfield Road end back 3 meters. That’s really only practical for the Anfield Road end and I’m not sure when that was completely rebuilt. I can remember some upgrade in the early 1980s but I don’t think that was a foundations up rebuild.
Yeah, I remember the last time I did the Anfield tour in May 2019. Went towards one of the guys to ask him if he knows if we’re starting all over with a completely new stand or just building a new upper level and the lower level stays as it is. The first scenario would’ve meant that we could make the pitch larger, from 101 metres to 105. But it would probably be crap economically, as we would lose attendance during seasons? I think there were about 3 different projects. I remember the news that FSG rejected a less ambitious plan and now what’s happening is actually a higher scale one. Maybe starting from scratch was never an idea or possibility.
They had a temporary stand down in the mid to late 00s when Landsdowne road was under renovation, and that seemed to be an inflection point in them being more ok with hosting non Gaelic events. But once LDR reopened I dont think they’ve hosted a football or rugby match there since.
What their position seems to be now is that they are happy to host non-Gaelic sporting events there if it is putting Ireland/Dublin on the map, but it will still not want to do so as a host to the IRU or FAI
I doubt it would happen but I’d bet that if you “lost” the bottom row of the Kop and Anfield rd end you could gain those 3m.
Does it make sense financially? Probably not.
He wasn’t aquitted. The charges were dropped by the prosecution as the evidence didnt meet the level needed to charge him
It’s tribalfootball…
And it took two years to decide that ?
It may well have been the right thing to do but then 2 years where he wasn’t playing and his reputation damaged.
Fair point.
Didn’t bother to see the source - rookie mistake
It doesn’t mean he’s innocent. It just means they failed to gather enough evidence to reach their threshold for charging.
Shouldn’t the investigation be done faster ?
Do you want an investigation to be fast or thorough?
both. At this point of time , the police leave themselves open for a counter claim by Gylfy for damages.
A statement from the police in Manchester, published in an article on Fotbolti.net today, reveals that the former Everton midfielder and captain of the Icelandic football team Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson will face “no further action.” Gylfi was arrested in July 2021 on suspicion of sexual offences against a minor. He was released on bail shortly after his arrest but has not played a professional football match since then.
The investigation into the case was finally completed last January, which was when the police handed over the results of its investigation to the Office of the Crown Prosecutor in the UK. It was up to the prosecutor’s office to determine the next steps, i.e. whether charges would be filed in the case or whether they would be dropped. [The decision has now been made] to drop the case after almost two years. Iceland Review received a copy of the original statement from fotbolti.net:
missed you by a few weeks then. Apr 27, 2019 was my tour.
Yeah, mine was between the Barca and Wolves final league game of the season. Will have another Anfield tour next season when the Annie Road stand is complete.
I did a tour in Feb 2020, didn’t expect that to be the norm of Anfield for over 2 years.
