Then again you’ve already displayed a classic Evertonian trait without knowing it. A complete absense of objectivity where LFC is concerned. Lies on WSAG, GOT etc are accepted as fact and passed on as such, absurd claims made, made up conversations with opposition fans and off the scale mental gymnastics to try and explain away any success LFC might have.
You’re whole fanbase is devoid of reality, objectivity, self-awareness and the actual truth.
As an example, and I’ll keep it brief because I have better things to do, a 30 second glance on WSAG has a poster still blaming Liverpudlians for what happened in Paris before the EC final in 2022. Nobody corrects it or questions it, it’s just accepted as fact despite every fucking person on the planet knowing the police and authorities were to blame, and the fact local hooligans were allowed to attack and steal from our supporters.
I have no interest in talking about these matters. I’m more interested in the truth, and you’ll gladly admit that Bill Shankly, in the end, had an Everton season ticket
I was watching a Goodison Park memorial video on YouTube the other day and it’s notable how many Goodison Park memories don’t involve Everton Football Club.
He did walk his dog around Bellefield which was near his house so he was quite friendly with the players and staff. I’m not sure if he had a season ticket, but he definitely received tickets from the club as well.
There is a bit of a myth that he was rejected by the club. They didn’t want him hanging around Melwood all the time, which put his nose out of joint, but he did help out at Tranmere and Wrecsam to keep himself occupied, as well as media work.
Essentially, he was a football nut, he couldn’t pass a match in the park without stopping and watching.
If you read his autobiography, you see that he chose to retire for his wife’s benefit, but he seemed to regret it afterwards. There is a lot of similarity with Klopp.
Right from the autobiography:
"I went to the training ground at Melwood for a while. It is only down the road from where I live. But then I got the impression that it would perhaps be better if I stopped going. I felt there was some resentment - ‘What the hell is he doing here?’ I packed up going to Melwood and I also stopped going into the directors’ box at Anfield. I still go to the matches, of course. I sit in the stand. I would have loved to have been invited to away matches, but I waited and waited until I became tired of waiting.
"Finally after twenty months and after Liverpool had won the League championship again, I was invited to travel with the club to Bruges for the second leg of the UEFA Cup Final. I accepted, because I didn’t want anybody to think I was petty, but it came too late for my peace of mind. I couldn’t help wondering why it had taken them so long. And I was not impressed with the arrangements they had made for me in Bruges, where I was put into a different hotel to the one used by the official party. I found that quite insulting.
"I soon realized that Liverpool preferred me to make my own arrangements, so that’s what I started to do. I asked other clubs for tickets, sometimes when Liverpool were the visiting team and sometimes to see other teams play. Tommy Docherty invited me to Old Trafford when Manchester United played Liverpool in a night match. Tommy invited me to have a meal with him in restaurant at Old Trafford and we enjoyed a wonderful hour of banter before the match. Sidney Reakes, the Liverpool director, said to Tommy, ‘I see Bill Shankly’s here.’ ‘Aye’, said Tommy. ‘He’s welcome here.’
"I might add that I count Everton amongst the clubs who have welcomed me over the last few seasons. I have been received more warmly by Everton than I have been by Liverpool. It is scandalous and outrageous that I should have to write these things about the club I helped to build into what it is today, because if the situation had been reversed I would have invited people to games .
“It was never my intention to have a complete break with Liverpool, but at the same time I wasn’t going to put my nose in where it wasn’t wanted. Maybe I was a an embarassment to some people.”
