Ibrahima Konate (CB) RB Leipzig

Where have you read that?

I haven’t seen loads of Konate but I doubt he’s slower than Halstenberg or Orban, two players who’ve been picked ahead of him this season.

He’s not. In no world whatsoever is that even remotely true.

I’m actually finding certain things being thrown around amusing. Everyone has an opinion and that’s what makes footy conversation great.

People like players for different reasons, but some of the things I’m reading in the last 24 hours are cringe inducing. Rooted in nothing of reality. Again, totally fine to not like a player, but it’s another thing to talk out ones arse.

Will be very hard to beat us true the air and on speed. :star_struck:

This is a little dramatic. “Regret”.

You don’t think Jürgen, Edwards, and the recruitment team have done their due diligence on Konate? A year in which spending has to be carefully measured and validated? Come on. We trust The Boss with everything else but he’s suddenly going to just throw around £30M in the same way he would buy a coffee? That makes no sense.

I’ve seen it spreading round Twitter/Reddit over the last few hours. Could be shite, of course. I had him down as a pacier CB, certainly more so than Ozan.

I agree, I think (opinion) Konate will start opposite Virgil. And I also agree that the pace and aerial prowess of that pairing will be difficult to beat.

Interesting point made earlier on defenders coming from BL struggling in the air in PL and Konate will likely have an adjustment period, but physically this kid has all the tools. And can pick a pass.

EDIT: maybe a thought for a different thread, but I have wondered what a Nat/Virg pairing would look like.

Perhaps he was the best available at that moment. I think Konate has been one they have been keen on for a while, along with Uppamacano.

It is.

He is.

This is why I still think another CB might come in. We were too strongly linked to left footed CBs whilst most of out CBs and Konate are all right footers. I also believe, with the uncertainty over injury returns for Gomez and Matip, that a second CB will still come in. One that, in theory, forms a perfect dovetail with Konate. VvD can still be first choice for a few years partnering with whichever one is appropriate at the time, but a realistic alternative of fielding both of them and resting VvD from time to time.

Feel bad for Kabak but he’s not on the same level as Konate in terms of talent or potential. He was very much a deal of convenience and whilst he might be disappointed not to make his deal permanent, he’s had five months in the shop window here instead of being stuck at Schalke. That will have done his reputation no harm. A move to Leipzig would be great next step for him.

Our hope now is Konate is the short term partner for and then the long term replacement for Virgil as the leader of our defence.

I am very nervous about this transfer, I don’t know bog all but a player from Bundesliga makes me nervous. Just like Thiago and look how he’s turning out, wonderfully on the otherside of the coin there was/is of course Keita who I have never adhered to in any shape or form (had 1 or 2 exciting moments but apart from that pretty invisible).

[Expert view on Ibrahima Konate as Liverpool transfer 'nearly done' - Liverpool Echo]
This journalist glowing.

So our CBs next season will be

VVD
Konate
Gomez
Matip
Phillips
Davies

Is anybody else concerned that our main 4 defenders have all missed sizeable chunks of the season due to injury.

Matip you know it will happen again, so we will be one serious Injury to VVD, Konate and Gomez away from a repeat of this season.

We should keep Kabak

You can’t go into the season thinking we’ll see a repeat of a previously unprecedented scale of injuries in one position.

What you’re basically advocating there is going with what we’ve got by with in the last ten games or so and adding four more players in that position.

We seem to be swinging from three plus Fabinho in an emergency being enough last summer to now thinking seven specialist centre backs is what we need.

If the club are happy with the recoveries of Joe and Virgil and think they can solve some of Matip’s niggles then we have to trust them.

Just not feeling this transfer.

Furthermore, while we might disagree with them at times or not understand the logic, they are not idiots who have refused to think about these things. You can rest assured that they have thought about what they might do should something go wrong with the recovery of one of the 3 between now and the end of the window and will be monitoring the situation carefully.

So do I have this correct, Konate is injury prone?

Wasn’t injured in the last 4 months but did not play in many games.

What does the ‘injury-prone-o-meter’ say?

It says deal to Liverpool agreed, wrap him in cotton wool to secure the payday.
