Thanks! I still think that penalty wasn’t just his fault but I’m OK if Slot uses it to help him improve his focus and decision making.
Apart from the defensive lapses. Quansah often is guilty of misplaced passes when playing the ball out from the back.
It is more noticeable now than last season because
- teams have found out about his indiscipline and decision making. The number of times that Quansah passes the ball to the midfield only to either misplace the pass or keep the midfielder in immediate pressure.
- slot demands that the players be more patient in the build up when playing the ball from the back
- he doesn’t have the ball playing ability that Virgil has.
And yet Quansah has a significantly higher pass completion % than everyone’s favourite new CB, Huijsen.
He was excellent in possession until the mistake in the cup against Manure, he now seems to 2nd guess himself and that indecision is leading to more poor passes.
Just needs to get his confidence back, this is an area where Jurgen excelled by making players believe and taking away the pressure.
I think there’s room for both of them tbh.
I’d be reluctant to sell Quansah. I’d rather a loan deal, because he needs minutes. He’s 22, and will be 23 in January 2026, and he’s only made 45 career appearances to date for Bristol Rovers and us (includes sub appearances). Compare that to Huijsen, who is three years younger, who has so far made 42 club appearances for Juventus, AS Roma and Bournemouth, and has also appeared for Spain twice. Leny Yoro from the Mancs has made 67 club appearances for Lille and Man Utd, and he’s 3 years younger too.
He looked awesome when he featured under Klopp, but I do think he needs to be exposed to top class football on a weekly basis to make that next step. That for me should be a loan deal to a Premier League team, perhaps to Bournemouth to help them fill the void when Huijsen departs.
So do I, just making the point that we fetter after other players regularly yet a criticism levelled at one of ours is that they aren’t good enough in possession - then the player we all want turns out to be statistically worse by a significant margin.
I don’t think Quansah needs a loan, personally, he’s well past that. His number of appearances doesn’t bother me, he would have a lot more if it wasn’t for a number of injuries as a teenager. I think his development is going fine, as Slot says he just needs to add consistency to his game which I think will come with time.
We should also take into consideration the difference between Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Ah, you must be new here. We don’t do these “fact” things here.
Ok, is this another new usage? I always thought to fetter was to restrain.
I think I meant fetish.
Those players you mentioned and the clubs they play/played for dont have the quality such as Virg, Ibou & Joe in their way for a starting place.
This time last year, we were still debating whether Quansah or Konate deserved the starting spot.
I think one of Quansah’s issue now is his playstyle being too similar to VVD. When they play together, it can be a bit passive, and we need someone more aggressive next to VVD, especially since VVD has lost some pace. It’s normal for CBs to lose form when they don’t play frequently. Konate also has a habit of having some bad games after injuries.

I think I meant fetish
That’s not helping your cause.
I fettered my fetish for Fetterman
