I have no idea what you are talking about! That is certainly not a reflection of my statements here…
Klopp: "We went into the season with three CBs plus Fabinho as cover and some youngsters. It’s hard to have four world-class centre-halves. If anyone wants to tell us we made a mistake, I think Carragher mentioned already. There are a few reasons why they don’t do this job…"
Can we please stop lying to ourselves here…
Eric Garcia who never played a PL game before 19/20 season is considered 4th CB for City, but the same standards do not apply for our youth CBs?
In what way was Garcia a senior CB option for City but the much older and much more experienced Phillips wasn’t for us???
We can stop blaming Klopp and our club for sure
You are mixing things up. I never said he was a senior CB
Phillips wasn’t even part of LFC’s calculations for the season during the transfer period…
What a fascinating argument this is.
It was a miscalculation and an avoidable risk.
Everyone makes mistakes or takes risks that do not pan out.
Nothing wrong in conceding that.
Ben White played in the Championship last year. Nat Phillips played for Franfurt in BL2. Both players played in games, so both are ranked. They’re also the same age.
So they are both either senior or not?
Ben White is the more experienced player, both in terms of games played and profile of games played.
The greater point I’m trying to make here is that he is not inexperienced, even if it might be a stretch to call him senior…
That’s one of the most maddening things. In a normal season with Thiago and Van Dijk at their usual availability we walk the league, laughing at everyone else. Now however it seems to be getting harder and harder.
There is a good chance we’ll be fielding a central duo consisting of Fabinho and one of Phillips, Rhys Williams.
With our luck with CBs anyone we’d bought in the window as a replacement for Lovren would definitely be injured by now so there’s no point in arguing.
It’s subjective. As per you, us not signing Thiago, but going for a 4th choice CB similar to likes of Lovren would have sufficed am presuming. As that team has won the league. The whole problem was signing Thiago and having Fabinho (because we have an extra midfielder now) consider a 4th choice back up as Lovren.
Your point would still hold true if Fabinho was an absolutely useless CB and that would have been a risk and miscalculation. Not Fabinho getting injured the same time as other CBs. That would have happened to any 4th CB we would have bought.
Yours is the only post I’ve read all the way through from the last hour and it ain’t because I’ve got ADD.
As frustrating as it is, it is part of the game. Once upon a time we ended up having to go to Munich for a Euro Cup semi final with an untried Howard Gayle up front because we were missing Rush, Johnson and Dalglish.
We can complain about missing a massively influential player like Virgil for a long period, because there is no planning that can accommodate that. What we cannot do is complain about having to play players who aren’t good enough because everyone around the club should be good enough to be relied upon.
Its time for Bobby to show why he is the best defensive forward in the world
You presume wrong.
As Klopp himself said about a year ago, you need 4 CBs going into a season.
And Thiago was a strategic signing to move the team even further…
People can spin it how they want but we went into the season with 3 CBs. JK even talked about the ‘centre back situation’ when we were waiting for Matip to get fit for the start of the season so it was recognised we were taking a risk.
Even so although Matip’s injury woes were entirely predictable VVD and Gomez is just plain bad luck. Good news is we have practically qualified for the CL knock outs already and got a lot of our hardest league games out of the way so the hit should hopefully be a short term one. There isn’t that long to go before the Jan transfer window. We will have to bring someone in now even if it’s just on loan.
I think it was clear enough that we wouldn’t have got Thiago if we got another CB.
But even then, how can you plan for this? These are not the usual muscle niggles, 2-3 weeks out maybe a month like Trent, this is potentially season ending injuries to both starting CBs. I mean… it’s just shit, horrible luck. I don’t know if the season is a write-off, depends where we’ll be in Jan. Maybe it’s just not our season. Just really sad.
I wanted us to sign a CB (ask Klopp if you don’t believe me).
Which would have given us CB options
- VVD
- Gomez
- Matip
- Some Guy
- Fabinho
- Some kid
- Some kid
Even then, in the present circumstances we would have been left with
- Matip
- Some Guy
- Some kid
- Some kid
Would that have been any better than the present circumstance??? Please bear in mind That Guy could have been injured (like Thiago) or adapting (like Tsimikas).
Finally,
I love you bro
