Joe Gomez injury update from Liverpool

Liverpool have just released this statement on Joe Gomez.

Confirmation the defender has suffered a knee injury:

England have announced Joe Gomez has withdrawn from the squad for their forthcoming internationals after sustaining a knee injury in training.

The defender will undergo further diagnosis on the issue with Liverpool’s medical team.

Gomez will therefore miss the Three Lions’ fixtures with Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland during the current international break.

The next time Southgate comes to Liverpool, he’d be well advised to put a paper bag over his head!!

If I recall correctly, Gomez suffered his first major injury with us just after he signed when with the England U21s. Southgate was manager of the U21s at the time, didn’t immediately bring Gomez off when he got injured then said that they didn’t believe the injury was too serious. Gomez was ruled out for the season.

From the presser:

Southgate:

I can’t tell you how serious it is because he is yet to have scans. What was upsetting to see, he was in a fair bit of pain. There was nobody around him when the injury happened. I didn’t like that element of it.

But we’ve just got to wait and see what the scans show. We’re all hopeful for him that it’s not what it might be. But it’s not a good situation. I don’t see him being involved in the games with us, that’s for sure.

He added:

We can’t speculate the exact nature of the injury. It’s not possible until we’ve seen scans. My immediate thoughts are with him. He’s had some difficulties with injuries in the past. We’re hoping and praying it is not going to be a long-term one. We’ll just have to see."

Fucked our season yet further for some pathetic tournament that makes the League Cup look like the European Cup.

But nah, it’s just big clubs moaning about the schedules. Should just have a bigger squad or rotate more.

Sounds like a bad one and whilst his form has been mixed this is the last thing we need.

From a normally reliable source with links to club…

Apparently he’s ruptured his patella tendon which could keep him out for a long time and is the third serious injury he’s suffered on England duty.

Only not serious knee injuries are knocks and overstretches. Seems to be worse in Joes case.

The next worse stage is what Hendo had at the end of last season (was expected to be out for 2 month) but no surgery required right?

And then we had the special case of Ox.

Reds manager Klopp said ‘Really unfortunate. An unfortunate situation as well; it was a challenge [in training].

‘It looks like it is very similar to what Hendo had, which keeps him out for we don’t know for sure exactly how long, but for sure this pre-season he will not make a game, Arsenal (Community Shield) for sure not and then we will see.

‘The next game is probably two weeks later, but I don’t know. We have to wait’

Gomez playing again this year would be a miracle IMO.
