Joe GOMEZ: 2020/21

At this rate the prem title run in will consist of a five a side title race.

Yeah, I agree, they are probably the most likely to get injured next.

For goodness sake, wash your mouth with soap and spit it out! (or clean your hand with soap and donā€™t type such cursed words!)

Matip should no longer be allowed out of his house, except for extremely light training and match days and be given a military escort to and from the training ground.

I wonder if Sterling has had another meltdown and attacked him again.

We went into the season with 4 CBs, two of which werenā€™t injury prone. We actually went with a massive upgrade over Lovren in Fabinho as the fourth choice. Predicting two of them who arenā€™t injury prone would get injured at the same time, isnā€™t something one could foresee and plan. Itā€™s ridiculous; in that sense we should sign couple of more keepers and few more strikers just in case.

Thatā€™s the reason we have youngsters and thatā€™s when theyā€™ll get a chance to prove themselves in such rarest of rare situations. Else, we might as well just sell all our youngsters.

Secondly, if we are thinking we shouldnā€™t have injury prone players in our squad and hence should have signed two more CBs and sell Matip/ Gomez or both, we might as well sell Keita, Ox, Shaq, and then look for midfielders because these players are injury prone as well. Also, good luck finding and having a squad of players who wonā€™t get injured at all, are of good quality and wonā€™t make a fuss not getting playing time. Oh and even if they donā€™t make a fuss, our fans will do strangely.

Finally, the situation is different from City because they had to remove their best and most reliable midfielder to move to CB because of injury to Laporte. We donā€™t. Fab isnā€™t our best midfielder, and we signed a massive upgrade in our midfield in Thiago.

Itā€™s shit situation, it cannot be planned but we have the best person leading us to mitigate it. Blame lies on stupid international games, not our manager and the club in my humble opinion.

At this rate, it will be the youngsters coming out as the starting 11 for Leicester. Vardy seems to be getting faster as he gets older,

With the former, itā€™s only a matter of time before he breaks down again. Especially if he has to play every three daysā€¦ and who knows when Fabinho will come backā€¦

Cityā€™s issue was they had 3 recognized CBs, and the manager didnt rate two of them. They lost only 1 player, but their issue was how ineffective options 3 and 4 were.

We have lost 3 of our 4 through injury.

It is not the same, nor is the reason we found ourselves in these situations the same.

Any chance of signing an out of contract decent player?

Any suggestions?

Kompany didnā€™t just represent a good centre back, they also lost the captain and voice in the dressing room.

We might have lost an occasionally erratic/occasionally decent CB in Lovren, but he didnā€™t represent to us what City lost in Kompany.

A closer analogy to Kompany would be if Hendo left, taking with him his standards, his drive, his leadership and his presence.

Iā€™d take Garay.

  1. We did NOT go into the season with 4 CBs. That is stretching the truth to beyond ridiculous.

Fabinho is a DM who fills in at centerback. He is not nominally a CB.

  1. Fabinho is NOT a massive upgrade on Lovren. Thereā€™s no objective data to support such a statement. Not in games played, performances, etc. You do not lead a team to the WC final by being a mugā€¦

True, injuries are part of the game. So is having 4 senior CDs for most top clubs, as Klopp himself had acknowledged a while ago.

Man Cityā€™s main issue last season was that they didnā€™t strengthen the position they needed strengthening in. Liverpool did something similar, in my opinion. Going into a season with a centre back as prone to injury as Matip and Gomez, whoā€™s hardly the embodiment of Iron Man, was a gamble, no? Even Van Dijk once had an injury that sidelined him for five or six or seven months, I canā€™t remember its exact length.

That said, I did favour the option of bringing in Alcantara and keeping Wijnaldum, so that Fabinho could become a genuine option at centre back. In hindsight, though, had Wijnaldum been sold and a centre back brought in, then Klopp wouldnā€™t have enough depth in central midfield with all the injuries that happened, I guessā€¦

So the problem is not having a nominal CB than anything else, is it? Because I donā€™t see our midfield suffering with Fab moving there. Anyways, to each his own.

We did go into the season with four centre backs. Fabinho counts, especially since it was stated quite clearly he was considered fourth choice centre back, and apparently he likes playing the position.

At this point he is a centre back in exactly the same way Milner is a full back. He plays another position, but heā€™ll be playing at least half his time in defence.

And Fabinho pisses all over Lovren as a CB in my humble opinion. If Fabinho was a dedicated CB I think heā€™d be top ten in Europe easily.

Iā€™d say Lovren is shedding a little tear as we speak. Lad would have played about 25 games this season

Not sure what season you are referring to, but in 2019/20 season they had 4 CBs.
