Joe GOMEZ: 2022/23

Ha ha ha. Nice one. Had me going for a second there :+1:t2:

I think Jürgen made reference to last season being a write-off for Gomez because he needed it for recovery.

I thought he was brilliant until the Napoli debacle, since when he has been patchy and inconsistent.

Car crash is way over the top, IMO

Having write off seasons and getting new contracts… can’t last forever.

2015/16: seven games, 618 mins, games missed due to injury 52
2016/17: 11 games, 945 mins, games missed due to injury 15
2017/18: 31 games, 2463 mins, games missed due to injury 7
2018/19: 26 games, 1644 mins, games missed due to injury 23
2019/20: 43 games, 3319 mins, games missed due to injury 0
2020/21: 12 games, 979 mins, games missed due to injury 39
2021/22: 21 games, 1036 mins, NA
2022/23: 26 games, 1690 mins*

Agreed, but as @Iftikhar just posted, he’s actually having a solid season minutes-wise. And I doubt the team would hand out a five-year contract like that just for value preservation or loyalty. Presumably he’s hitting the goals they have…

I know, I posted a few days ago that this so far is the 3rd most amount of games (26) he’s played in a season for us. But that tells us more how much football he’s missed over the years through injury and others being picked ahead of him. Unless he improves his peformances, I don’t see how he merits another few years here.

I think one flaw that was pointed out by an article many seasons ago when he signed for us was that Joe tends to rely on his pace to get out of trouble while world class CD over years developed that vision and instinct and anticipation before plays happen. He reacts after the play happens. That is something to be developed but it seems he is still relying on his pace mostly rather than developing other traits and pace is something he probably will not improve as he ages.

He did alright today I thought.

Was very good today…might’ve been a little different with DCL up there but he did what he had to do tonight, there’s none of this scapegoating bollocks some think people are playing.

If you play well, you’ll get told so.

If you stink the place out, you’ll get told so.

Exactly! None of this axe to grind bollocks

He did. Hopefully he can hop onto this performance and continue improving. He has a long contract with us so hopefully he can continue to show why he can be the future along with Konate.

Absolutely clueless tonight and needs to be replaced in the summer. Que mascot to tell us how good he was.

Scapegoat Joe!!! Yeah if scapegoat meant giving away stupid fouls like a 5 year old and dangling a leg out half heartedly in an ā€œattemptā€ to block a shot.

He wasn’t brilliant tonight, but none of them were. He was hardly the biggest problem on the pitch.

He wasn’t good last night and it would be nice to get a better player in the summer, but, there were few other players who were really bad.

I have always liked Joe Gomez but how can he be so erratic? Don’t know why he keeps turning his back and also allowing the attacker to come on the inside of him. So poor last night.
