Joe GOMEZ: 2023/24

It occurs to me that over these four games, I don’t think I have once voted Joe as one of the three stars. But he has been invaluable in each and every one of them. I think he played three different positions against Forest, DM, LB, RB?

It wasn’t that long ago that some fans were being disparaging and wanted to get rid of him.

He’s proved them wrong and then some.

Joe Gomez has taken the James Milner role this season. It’s not just he has played in multiple positions as required by the team/manager. Just like Milner, his performances were under the radar and critical at the same time.

Furthermore, he’s acted as a real mentor to the youngsters during this tough spell.

Joseph been called up by Southgate for the first time in four years.

Happy for him but always afraid about injuries during the international break.

Sterling called up by any chance?

Did you ever hear the tragedy Joe Gomez The Red? I thought not. It’s not a story the plastics would tell you. It’s a Scouse legend. Joe Gomez was a Menace of the Scouse, so powerful and so wise he use to influence the outcome of games… He had such a knowledge of the defensive side that he could even prevent chances of going in. The Red side of the Gegenpressing is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing that could make him untouchable, was a goal. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice scored before he did. It’s ironic he could prevent, assist and create goals, but not convert them himself.

Yeah, I am glad for him, because he clearly values it and he has been such a pillar in the past 10 weeks. But minimal trust with the England camp, and I just want him to be able to keep doing what he has been doing.

…and score

I’m always happy for the players and proud as a fan with news like this.

My natural wish is that we have as much internationals as possible, be it senior or in young selections.

There’s been some stuff from Sam McGuire on X about Gomez potentially being open to offers to leaving this summer. Apparently, Gomez wouldn’t force the issue, just that he wants the club to listen and consider the offers if they come in.

I think that could explain some of the Geertruida stuff, as he’d be a direct replacement, covering RB, CB and DM, rather than potentially a DM to balance our midfield.

Think it’d be a real shame, but he’s been at the club longer than Klopp, coming up to his prime years, and may want to play every week as a starter (although given our injuries and number of games, he’s pretty much playing most games anyway) so I wouldn’t begrudge him a move. Don’t want him to leave though.

He was useful this season, but the bigger picture and reality where he stands didn’t change much in my opinion. We’ll see how Slot sees it, perhaps he will want to keep him.

He will be 27 this month and contracted to the age of 30. I don’t think this season will “buy” him 3+ more years at Liverpool, unless something odd happens. Maybe one more season and then look to get some money when he has 2 years left.

I do understand if the player himself is open for something new, where he would be really viewed on paper as a regular starter. I don’t think he will get that here anymore. We’re in the phase of getting more quality in. Konate is ahead of him and Quansah is promising. Bradley also.

If he’s leaning towards a London move, perhaps Palace would be a good place for him. Playing 3 at the back and needing more CB options (and Guehi might be moving soon).
