And for Southgate to publicly criticise Jordan for taking responsibility for the penalty is fucking ironic given his failures at penalties not to mention its poor man management.
I hesitate saying things so negative about him, out of respect for my TAN brothers and sisters from England, but I just can’t hold it.
Southgate is an asshole. Completely disingenuous, zero likability. Always has to be the smartest guy in the room but seldom is. I’m almost rooting against England simply bc of Southgate.
Marcus and James Ward-Prowse were the two nominated at the start of the game and they’d both come off. But Hendo was the captain on the field by then. He was the one to make the decision. If I was Dom as the centre-forward I might not have gone along with that so easily.
Yep Hendo would do well to realise that the England setup will use, abuse and scapegoat him. Really hope he takes it very slowly and carefully… England have broken Gomez and TAA this season and I’m fearful they are likely to add Hendo to the list.
If Henderson had let someone else take it and they had failed to score he’d be facing questions over his leadership and courage for not taking it himself as the leader.
This is all about Monday morning quarterback Gareth Southgate and his wont for blaming everyone else in order to make himself look good to the old farts in their suits at the FA.
No class at all from Gareth. On the eve of the tournament, and yet he is putting all the blame on the captain.
And then he undermines the whole group of players by saying that he “will pull rank” next time. What a way to ensure that you don’t want any leaders on the field. Excellent Gareth, brilliant indeed.

Only in England would a missed penalty in a meaningless friendly cause a furore. And Southgate is an even bigger moron for not brushing it aside but addressing it and saying belittling stuff like “pulling rank”. As if the dipshit is talking about some naughty kid who made mischief and not the active captain of his country’s biggest club.
I realise that Henderson, TAA and the rest of the English players want to distinguish themselves with England but they really have nothing to look forward to under the current setup. They are far better off staying away.
Zero goals for England, motivated being back playing football, some key players out of the pitch at the time, willing to show he can take responsibility…
I’m sure this will cause needless drama in English media. It wasn’t a good reaction, he’s not good in those situations and that’s it. Big deal.
It’s pretty ridiculous Henderson is in the squad at all to be honest. Hasn’t played for us in three months but just goes straight into the England team. International managers just do not care about player welfare.
Better to have all the talking points be about a penalty rather than asking questions about what it says when you struggle to a 1-0 win at home, to a country who didn’t qualify for the Euros, a week before the tournament.
This is why not every player is suited to be a Captain or a leader. When you lead and makes decisions, someone always criticizes them sooner or later.
Hendo has been a great Captain for us because he doesn’t let himself be effected by this nonsense unlike, me for example who would totally overthink things until I was unable to even decide how to tie my own shoes.
