Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

Can’t be angry at us if we don’t get this one, it will be an expensive and difficult one.

There are reasons to be quietly optimistic, but we have to be realistic as well.

It’s hard to quantify the wages players get because some clubs utterly distort the market. Sancho’s wages at Utd etc.

Which says Tchouameni is on 135k euros a month and turned down double that to go to Real.

So there are players out there with some sense. Bellingham strikes me as similar.

Apparently not, since they’re looking to junk Grealish for FFP reasons. Apparently.

Really?

Let’s count the Champions League titles they’ve won in the last 10 years, shall we?

For young players who are motivated to choose a move based on how it will develop them as a player, I wonder if any look at City and question how generalizable the adaptations required to fit into Pep’s way of playing is? Players who look great at City have looked far more normal in any other environment and I wonder whether that perception (regardless of whether it is actually true) might factor in for a player like Jude.

There arent many examples of players leaving and showing they’ve clearly improved in a transferable way and there is also a bit of a trend of well City established players struggling to earn the faith of their international manager. Small samples sizes, but perceptions dont have to be built on reality.

I do agree with most of your points. He’s guaranteed more money and premier league titles at City. Though I think there’s more chance of a CL with us (with him in midfield). Also he’ll clearly get more love from the fans, manager and teammates. He’ll want to go to Madrid at some point. I understand that. But why not 5 years with us first and then (like Suarez, Modric etc) join them for more glory years after?

You guys have got me googling Jude now.

The football transfer window opens on 1st January 2023. World Cup finshes on 18th December. Maybe we will know something concrete by then.

I believe it when I see the lean, not a moment sooner …

Yeah, that’s fair, I’ve no problem with that. It’s just that I can foresee an almighty uproar of anger in here when it will turn out that he finally joins Abu Dhabi instead of us…

But I’m all for a good surprise, he’s an exciting player who would likely reinforce our midfield. But the fee and the wages would be absolutely eye-watering and imo a dangerous move for the club regarding its financial stability.

I doubt the club make the move if they aren’t sure the club will retain financial stability. Thus far FSG have shown to be cautious (and a bit too much in some peoples view), and I don’t see that changing.

I am reading good points on both sides of the Bellingham discussion. There’s credible reason to believe he will come, and credible reason to believe he won’t.

If he does come it will be for a club record fee, for sure. Under the current ownership and financial model, it will strain us, but it is doable.

The wages will be the biggest concern. They will of course be high, but not highest. We have form for wanting to see what players do in a red shirt, especially young players. Still, given his profile and standing in the game already, he will start off as one of the highest paid players, only bettered by a small few at Liverpool, and then we will take it from there.

If and when the wage structure is broken for his next contract, or the one after that, it will probably be on the new owners and the level of money and risk they want to take. I think Bellingham would earn more wages elsewhere, from the off, and that will be an obstacle to overcome.

It won’t do for us to dismiss a player going for more money elsewhere as being money driven. Whoever can pay Jude Bellingham more than us will also be going for the biggest prizes in the game.

The caveat for that is a retirement sort of thing, like Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia, for an obscene sum of money. If Bellingham hopped on that at this stage, then yes, he is money driven. If he goes to Man City or Real Madrid, and they can pay him more than we pay, he’s going for the whole package, not just the wage, and he sees his sporting prospects as being good at those clubs too.

Personally I think we will get him.

Ideally in January, maybe with a fit again Keita going the other way?

If we wait until summer we will need to make sure of top four, and by then we will probably have new owners. Depending on who that is, the club might even have some ‘trouble’ around it, if new owners prompt fan unrest and protest.

January signing it is then. Sign me up for some of that.

Absolutely, that will always be their first motive, and that’s also why I’m glad to have them as the owners of the club.

If Jude doesn’t want to go to RM or the Cheaters, that puts LFC in a strong bargaining position… by default, if Jude prevents a dutch auction scenario from happening, then in theory he will save us a lot of money, possibly in the tens of millions… If this scenario pans out, then why not top the lads wage up from the money he saves us!!! Simples :0)

Mods- please close this thread. It’s just going around in circles.

You can open the “Jude Bellingham- Welcome To Liverpool” one in six months’ time.

Thanks.

I loooove to take the piss out of their CL performances, but their CL trophy, or trophies, will eventually come. They will keep pushing more money in until it happens.

They (City) are much more of a threat with Jude than Real IMO. If I am to believe the family have a career path planned out for Jude, then him moving to Real at this stage of his career would be a very odd one, particularly given how many top quality midfielders they have on their books and who he would be competing with. It just wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

I would also love to buy into this Jude-Hendo-Trent bromance, which from the outside looks like a poorly kept secret of him bonding with his new teammates, I am also weary of Liverpool’s pulling power in media/social media. There could be plenty of interactions between Jude and City England players but that doesn’t really sell like Liverpool players doing the same.

City have won 14 major titles since 2011. We have won double less, 7. Trophies is certainly not an area where they are in disadvantage (if anything, then quite the opposite), regardless of not winning the CL yet.

Half. :slightly_smiling_face:

It sounds perverted when you say it.
