Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

Ahem, that looks like @gasband’s early oeuvre. Highly prized and certainly no child drawn doodle!

Even if mine were to look alike, it has to be said that I used a different body part to draw my art and not my hands.

You have the right to your opinion, but while I agree Liverpool have among the most illustrious of histories I think you are adamantly wrong that we are among the 1 or 2 most attractive clubs to play for. I don’t think young players think like you do unless they are Liverpool fans. I doubt many players would agree that playing for City is only attractive when it comes to money, that is a typical fan view, not a player view. As it happens I share that fan view, but most players wants to play for the best team with the best players and win titles as well as earn a lot of money.
And I don’t think I undervalue the club. I try to be objective. But our opinions differ and that’s okay.

We were in the champions league final 6 months ago. We’ve been in 3 out of the last 5 of them.
We’ve got a manager every player
wants to work with.
Think it’s crazy to talk down how attractive we are.

I do agree with you about City though. Mad to talk down how attractive they are too just because they’ve sprung up recently.

Liverpool could give up on trying to sign Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham because they believe getting a deal done for the 19-year-old is proving too complicated. (AS - in Spanish)

I’ve finally worked out what AS stands for: Absolute Shite.

Breaking news…

'Spanish media is full of shit, and will print as much disinformation as they can get away with

to put of rival clubs from signing players that Barca or Real are after’

Really? 5 people like/agree with this opinion? That LFC is not among the top 2 or 3 clubs to play for? Ok then, as you were.

Didn’t talk them down, money and Pep make them attractive. That’s it.

Guess who’s tweeting that LFC “have agreed a club-record deal to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund”?

Well, if we haven’t then I think Mr. Jackoff better give up on Twittering.

@Magnus is correct. We will not be amongst the top 2 clubs for most players. There will be a variety of reasons behind that.

We all have our opinions. So he is correct in yours. Not in mine.

It’s not simply a case of opinion but is supported by the facts - if we were truly in the top 2 why would we find it so hard to sign the players we want ?

There are very few better prospects out there for a player than us. But they exist. For example, it would not be difficult to imagine Enzo going to Real Madrid, or Man City, as their midfield starts to age. I hope not. We have a chance, definitely.

For Bellingham, we are right in there as well, and if we put a competitive package together I could see us signing him.

If he wanted to try Real Madrid around age 26 or whatever, after a successful 6-7 years at Liverpool, they will still be there.

In the debate about other teams that players might want to sign for, Real Madrid and Man City can both offer more money and more of a guarantee of trophies than we can. Man City and Europe not yet, but moving forward, it is probably only a matter of time before they win the CL. Unfortunatley. Until then, they should expect to be at the sharp end year in year out. PSG can offer guaranteed trophies, near enough. Bayern Munich are thereabouts too, but they don’t seem to pay as big a transfer fee.

After that I would say Chelsea and Man Utd can probably pay more wages than us, but aren’t currently as successful. Barcelona have the name and destination for a lot of players too, but they clearly aren’t what they were, though they still manage to find high wages.

We just showed with Mo’s new deal that we can be competitive on the upper end of wages, notwithstanding anomalies like Haaland or Mbappe, who need oil money to fund their ridiculous demands.

We have a world class manager, definitely in the conversation for best in the world. We have a proven pedigree for players to come and shine and cement legendary status. There is a special bond with the fans and the city, intangibles that some other sterile teams don’t have. We treat people well. We can offer great wages, but not the best. We can offer a great chance to compete for trophies in the most competitive league in the world. There are easier gigs out there if you want to amass easier trophies.

Loads of teams wanted Diaz but we swooped in and just took him. There was competition for Nunez but Klopp wanted him so we got him. Same with Carvalho, probably the same with Konate. Barca wanted Naby but he came to Liverpool.

Only real example of a player we were definitely in for who turned us down to go somewhere else recently is Tchouameni, no?

Also big massive Merry Christmas everyone! Discussing transfers on Christmas Day. You love to see it. X

We’d been working on a deal for Diaz since the previous summer. Other interest was from Barca (no cash) and Spurs (Spursy).

Not sure there had been much series competition either for the other players you listed. We tend to avoid head on races for places where we can.

Ok which players have we wanted and found it hard to sign, bearing in mind there is Real, Barca, Man City, Chelsea, Manure, PSG and Bayern in the mix?

I think we are at least as attractive to any of other teams and more so as a full package (ie not just more money) than Chelsea, Bayern, Manure, PSG and Barca. Imo.

We’re less attractive than RM, MC and PSG to most players (money). Add Barcelona for South Americans and Bayern for Germans.
We’re on a level with MU (momentum) in the PL. A bit ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs still, although living in London is a factor for some. Newcastle catching up fast.
That means there are only 4 or 5 clubs in the world that are more attractive at the moment, but if we miss out on CL we could slip to 8th or 9th quite quickly.

There’s no one size fits all answer.

We’re more attractive for a player like Bellingham than we are for Tchouameni.

Bellingham seems to be a bit of a football romantic. It’s plausible to think that he’d rather play here than anywhere else, given he’ll know the history of the club and the support he’ll get, not to mention the manager.

I don’t even think Champions League football is a major factor in this, only apart from the fact it should mean we have more money in the pot.

Agree with most of this but not having us on a level with MU. They’ve won fuck all for years, while we’ve come within whiskers of multiple PL and CLs
