He definitely appears to be on the move this summer and conceivably to one of our competitors (eg Newcastle), so we’ll keep it open for now as with Mount so any developments with this player can be discussed here.

Thuram seems like a decent player with good potential under the right manager, but there’s no doubt Szoboslai is a couple of levels above him.

I completely agree that if the choice was Szobo or Thuram, we got it right, even if we paid more.
The one thing I wasn’t fully sure about with Thuram is whether or not we had any intent to make him more of a 6 in our system, playing to the left of Trent in the first 2, in a 3223.
If Klopp was cooking up a plan like that, I would have been intrigued to see it.
As things stand I would have Lavia in the deeper role over Thuram, and I’d have Mac and Szobo over him too, in their roles. Thuram seems like a player who could be molded, but it looks like the door to Liverpool is closing for him now. Unless Lavia falls through and a deal is rekindled for Thuram?

Now we’ll see if Lavia is a smokescreen for someone else, completely new and not mentioned so far.

A couple of weeks ago Thuram had agreed terms and the clubs were deep in negotiations about the fee.
