Ligue Un discussion

There is setup and then there are also key figures who make the setup a top quality one, be it the manager and/or a couple of outstanding players. What is then the setup anyway, I mean, we have to decide sometimes. Sometimes it sounds like someone must be a “fraud” or at least overrated, either Pep or Messi. They’re both brilliant in my book. Ronaldo’s career simply went in a different way. I have no doubts at all that Messi would’ve enjoyed more or less the same success, had he moved to other top leagues. Yeah, that will be Ronaldo’s arguments for his own glory; doing it in more leagues, doing it at the international level (let’s not forget they’re not playing alone!), etc. It’s valid. But it’s not only what counts.

And not a single shot on target, either…

lol

I have a feeling that PSG owners will be lot less generous after the 2022 World Cup.

thats a fair point…an angle i havent even thought about until just now

PSG are bound to lose some games, it’s not a big deal in my book. Not yet this season. It’s not like PSG can win every game and play every game like gods. It’s impossible. I’ve seen much, much better teams (and no, the front 3 is not the entire team, although it is mighty on paper) than this PSG side fail to accomplish some things they planned to accomplish. It’s the hype around it that creates this image that they should win every game. Of course, it depends how much and what they win at the end of the season. They shouldn’t be losing the league like last season. This loss to Rennes I’d qualify as one normal slip, even for PSG’s level. It’s their first of the season we can say, if we don’t count their domestic supercup. The more interesting part will be to follow their evolution this season, balance between defence and attack, focus and consistency from sometimes not being 100% in the league and lacking better opponents to be more ready when they reach the last stages in the CL. Especially that midfield part where I’ve noticed that Gini lost his starting place a little bit and Verratti played a bit deeper than before. That’s where it looks like they’re almost trying to copy our recent style, having a hard working midfield behind that attack. Not a guarantee that they’ll succeed.

Got OM vs. PSG live, unexpectedly :star_struck:

Allez L’OM!!!

Which will no doubt be delayed in Jan due to a setback taking him through Feb.

Funnily enough, Feb is also Carnival in RIo, and his sisters birthday and he seems to pick up an injury ruling him out for Feb most seasons.

This league is really shite, isn’t it? Crowd problems every other week, a state-owned fake club distorting the competition completely, and the best players moving abroad after one or two seasons, unless they are employed by PSG.

I used to follow it, but have lost any kind of interest to be fair.

I couldn’t tell you, noone talks about it. In any case all sports fans I meet at the moment are amateurs of Rugby.

This is a big problem.

Not owned by the French state so I think that needs rephrasing.

At least that shows there’s some value in it. We should also add young to the type of plyer leaving and include PSG in it to an extent even if they do buy some of the young talent from the other clubs none seem to be happy enough there to stay long term.

It needs more open coverage imo of course if your interested in owners pulling out owners trying to pull out and fiascos over who takes over it could have an interest.
The troubles every other week are perhaps interesting if your a fanatic of one of the clubs involved, so groups of a couple of hundred.

The formation system in France is probably the best about this league. For people interested in young talents, it’s certainly worthwhile to be fair. But clubs aren’t able to keep them long enough, which is a shame (well, apart from PSG, that ugly monster owned by a foreign oil-state).

i think for those who follow closely it’s got some good managers, or should i say interesting ones. Club affaires can be fascinating and of course the great variety of football practiced by the clubs (which is one of the reasons youth formation is so good and those formed can fit into many leagues with differing but less varied styles). Many clubs have stuck with their traditional styles which is courageous (but could also be a factor in the leagues demise).
The thing is you really need to have a passion for at least one club and even then the nonsense going on must be hard to take.
If TV coverage was more open I would watch a few games but paying for it, even streaming, is out the question for me.

To be fair it throws it’s fair amount of entertainment nowadays unlike the old days when it was dull 0-0’s in most games.

But yeah it’s not much of competition, then again few leagues are just not on this scale.

In any case I only watch LFC so can not comment about leagues at all. If I watch CP vs Southampton i bored to tears after 2 minutes so is the quality anywhere else.
Doesn’t it boil down to your passions, I was watching Racing 92 vs Bordeaux Begles the other night, just couldn’t get into it as Racing are horrible and traditionally Bordeaux are RCT’s arch rivals, noone to support and not enough passion to care who wins.

Wijnaldum with an injury time equalizer.

Did Divock and Gini ever scored on the same day before? :eyes:

Intriguing watch the last 20 of that PSG game and they reminded me an awful lot of Barca last season… give it Messi he will do something.

They were shite. If Lens’ players weren’t brain dead on the counter they would have killed that game off before the equaliser.

Yeah I didn’t include that on the occasions when Barca looked without ideas, which was often.

I meant they were devoid of ideas.
