Nice post. I do wonder if injuries are now having a double whammy. Lots of players have played lots of minutes while others have been out. And those returning aren’t in rhythm/form.
But no excuses. I reserve all excuses for myself.
Find a beautiful way to win it in the second leg and win the prem.

But our overall malaise may cost us 2 more trophies… if you’re not sure of our malaise. Look at our poor finishing. Thank God Jota is coming back.
Also our defense is not great.
I dont know about you… but i think we are the most talented team in this league… we should have beaten Mancity in our last meeting. Same as for beating United… we dominated both.
We should of gotten easily a triple this season. Dominant top teams get doubles triples etc
The absurd standards of the 97-100 point seasons of us and City in recent years has warped perceptions. Football was always a game where top teams can come unexpectedly unstuck and it can happen without any big conclusions having to be gleamed from it.

That would maybe be evidence of malaise if it was a new thing. You can look at any of our unsatisfactory results this season and with very few exceptions see the narrative of us pissing it away by not taking our chances.

I was flicking through You tube couple months ago and stumbled on a old video of the Liverpool v Southampton game from 89/90 the last title season before the wait and we got absolutely battered 4 -1 in todays age we would have been getting relegated after that result.
Poor finishing but we have scored 125 goals this season most in all top leagues.

One of the first seasons I remember was 83-84. A history making treble winning side, yet as some point in the spring, one the first games I remember, we got thumped by a relegation threatened Coventry City with Terry fucking Gibson giving Hansen a torrid time. 4-0 I think.
“oh look at fucking Hansen the stuck up cunt, thinking he’s already got the game won. Thinks he too fucking good these days to have to show up for games like this.” He should be fucked off and we should buy [insert shit player here]"

My first season as a supporter. So I remember that 0-4 too.

Rarely teams win doubles/trebles.
Nearest ever to a quadruple was Liverpool.
Poor night, awful result.
I still believe we will win the PL.
We are good enough.

Would have been great to win 4,but premier league is the priority.

They hardly pressed though just good man to man and our players were lost.
from what I saw, I can only summarize that match as an example of underestimating your opponent
We thought our second team could outplay them, but they were a physically superior squad that used their size to advantage and were very well set up by a good manager. the harder we pressed for a goal, the more mistakes we made
I would have to go back and look at the highlights again, but I feel like we were constantly being punished for wayward passes especially on the goals. they were set up to counter-attack and were clinical in their opportunities.

I really dont get all the second guessing of the side. I get arguing that we made too many changes at once, but I dont think any of the individual selections were unusual enough to talk about this as being complacent. Tsimi was probably the most unexpected, but even he is an experienced international who many fans have been questioning why he has been so uninvolved recently.

Agreed
We had enough on the pitch to win the match. If Nunez scores first half Klopp is hailed as a hero for resting top players.
The night went wrong, and it happens from time to time. Thats the honesty of our football.
Man City would have killed them with beige woodchip wallpaper football. Whilst cheating.
I know where I would rather be.
