Liverpool vs Real Madrid, Champions League Final @ Stade de France, 8pm in the UK [7pm GMT]

I will make it to the beach this afternoon for some sun, sea and fresh air though. Might even get in if there’s any swell.

That should hopefully help keep my mind occupied and help calm the nerves in the build up…

Quietly confident of this match. Compared to 2018, our 1st 11 for the final has significantly improved :
2018 2022
GK Karius Alisson
RB TAA TAA
CB Lovren Matip
CB VVD VVD
Mid Hendo Hendo
Mid Milner Fab
Mid Gini Thiago
Fwd Salah Salah
Fwd Bobby Diaz
Fwd Mane Mane
Major upgrades in defence, midfield and attack.
Plus our subs are way better than in 2018.
Of course RM have also improved but I feel we are now much better prepared for their dark arts.

I stayed in St Merryn by Padstow many years back…
It had the moniker of… Seven Bays for Seven Days… It was a brilliant place

Sun is cracking the flags here in south manchester. Been the park, saw Anthony Taylor (city shirt) and Paul Tierney (no shirt but a Fergie tat on his left breast) playing red arse heads and volleys.

Glorious day.

Just got the first real hit of excitement.

Team pretty much picks itself if everyone is fit. Only question is Matip or Konate and Diaz or Jota/Firmino. Would go with Matip I think but happy either way. Up top I’d go Diaz from the start with Mane down the middle. Go at them like we went at City in the first half of the semi.

Can see the thought process of going with Jota or Firmino though and I’d probably say Firmino of them. Use him to drop deeper, mix up the lines a bit more and to close Modric down so he doesn’t get time on the ball. That would give us the pace of Diaz to come on later as they get tired and space likely opens up a bit. It means two different attacking options from the bench instead of two similar ones if Diaz starts.

Seem to have conceded early goals in recent matches and we can’t afford to do that against this lot. Think we’ve got to come out aggressive like we did against City in the semi and Chelsea in the final. Don’t let them set the tempo, go for them from the whistle and take it from there.

Last time I watched a final at a pub we lost (2007) and pub/restaurant got partially gutted by fire a week ago. Thankfully nobody got hurt but it feels like some sort of an exorcism…or maybe me grasping at straws about good omens for tonight

Well, nothing on telly so I think I’ll be off to bed …

And get up at 03:30 in time for the 04:00 kick off! I’ve lashed out and have paid actual money to watch it on TV instead the usual unreliable and time-lagged stream.

It’s going to be tense, but it’ll be a classic and we should win. After all, how many games have RM lost this season in the CL alone? And we’ve lost only three out of 62. Anything Sheriff Tiraspol can do, we can do better!

The big day is finally here, I can already see the Henderson shuffle and No 7 in his hands.
Hopefully mo will pass to a team mate in a better position now that the golden boot race is over.

Columbus, Ohio. The pub is an LFC “official” location—as are many in the US.

The folks who attend are a nice mix of locals and expats. Two mates at our regular table are an interesting mix: one from Leeds, the other from Sheffield. A lot of drop-ins passing through as well looking for a place to view a match. A fellow from Liverpool was one such a few weeks back for the FA Cup Final. He was amazed at the crowd and the passion. Said it was “like my pub” (didn’t ask the name sadly), which was taken as a high compliment.

Great place it is. It will be insane today for certain!

We cannot let Modric run the midfield, we will be in for a torrid time if we don’t get at him early i think.

Please no penalties either, we’ve been riding our luck with pens in finals, and yes we are very good at them…but but but.

Anway i’ll go with a 3-1 win

Just heard that of the last 10 euro finals between English and Spanish teams, nine have been won by the Spanish. Need to start the fight back … tonight.

No doubt about it, the spanish know how to grind out a win in these finals…

St Merryn is lovely. Not far from us at all. May well visit this time

And remember the tonking Stevie G and the boys gave em at Anfield. And Stevie is in the crowd. I’ll take that as a good omen
