Liverpool vs Real Madrid| CL Round of 16| Tuesday 21st February, 20:00 | Anfield

The saves were nothing special , the way I remember it. It was more a case of our forwards hitting the ball straight at him.

if I wasn’t before… now I’m excited!

There is a lot of this kind of negativity here, and it’s clearly rooted in a cowardly desire to protect one’s own feelings.

Don’t be a shithouse. Believe in these lads. If you end up with a broken heart, fuck it. You’ll be fine. It’s part of life.

With a manager with big eyebrows.

I think the talk of him being the difference is overblown. There were exactly 4 shots of ours on target where the RM GK had to actually do something.

The first was at about 30’ which was an absolutely world class save on Mane’s strike: Fully stretching to his right and pushing it onto his post. There can no doubt that was absolutely brilliant.

The next 3 happened later in the game, all by a strike from Salah. First was a semi stretch to push Salah’s shot wide. It was a good save but something I would expect most keepers to make. Next was blocking Salah’s shot at the far post from a cross. That was basic goalkeeping 101. I’d be pissed at any GK not called Loris letting that one go in.

Final one was a belting shot by Salah from close to the keeper. It was a reflex save getting his hand up to push it wide. Fairly good. GKs should have quick reflexes. To be fair, the shot had a surprising amount of power on it (where have these Salah shots disappeared to in such a short period of time!) and given it was probably our last proper attempt on goal the GK got the plaudits from his teammates but again, not an out of this world save.

There are far more painful PL games over recent years where the GK has been clearly the difference between us winning and drawing/losing. Granted a CL final is when the pressure is on, but they basically got a goal from a position where our keeper was completely taken out of the equation from the quality of the cross. Every one of our shots were where their keeper had an ideal position.

Madrid team released really early

Seems odd to get the team sheets too early. We are still deciding what to watch before the coverage starts, having already had a celebratory feast to mark the martyrdom of Saint Pancake.

Kroos suddenly on the bench?

Apart from that, expected XI from Real.

Has to be after 7pm for me or it has bad vibes so I won’t look here again just in case ours is leaked.

Ali, Trent, Joe, Virg, Robbo, Fab, Stef, Hendo, Mo, Cody, Darwin.

All expected from us, also.

Alisson has kept 13 clean sheets in 21 Champions League appearances for Liverpool at Anfield - the most of any goalkeeper in the club’s history.
