Loan Watch: 2021/22

Mmmm… not sure that they are well-inspired. fsg are not ideal owners (are there any?), but better the devil you know and all these things…

I think Minamino is more talented than Wilson or Grujic, even considering the fact that they play in different positions. In my opinion the problem with Minamino is physical and cultural and he isn’t suited for EPL. I feel he will be back to his best in very short time if moves to (for example) Germany.

I saw a online poll after the super league fiasco and over 50% wanted Fsg out, probably just anger after failed attempts to start SL.

Same, also the bar has been set incredibly low thanks to Wilson and Brewster. I would love him to stay with us for next year, but only if he can get game time.

If Elliott does not make it to Anfield I really have no clue recognizing a huge talent.

Any German club that’s not Bayern should be interested.

About ducking time.

Let’s just play him, after all this time I think we are owed at least 1 appearance.

Our attempt to play Chelsea, stock player who will probably never feature here and is only here to make profit. If we get a surprise player, of course we’re always open to it. First thing I’d do in football is to put a hard limit on how many of these stocks one can have.

Yes there needs to be a limit of, for example, 6 loans per club.

I an analysis after the transfer window ended in the summer. I haven’t updated for January but it showed hundreds of players loaned out by Premier League team. Chelsea and Man City alone have over 50 players loaned out between them.

I don’t agree with the Chelsea analogy. Bear with me for a while.

While the Chelsea model is driven by commercial motivations, our system is intended to provide talents for our senior squad. I think our youth system was overhauled during the Rafa years and from that time onwards we have been scouting and grooming young talents who would one day graduate to the senior squad. Until few years ago we had bunch of young players either released or stuck in youth squad.

I think it’s an initiative by Klopp and Edwards to be decisive with young players who don’t have the pathway to the senior squad but can generate decent revenue. You will find our cashing-in on young players is a recent development while recruitment of young players goes a long way back.

267 players sent out on loan in the summer, a further 81 sent out in January.

348 loans out of Premier League team in total. Enough for 30 starting XIs.

Chelsea and Man City with 67 loans out in a single season. Palace the fewest with 3.

Surely from that table it looks like Chelsea and Stoke are taking the piss the most? So many players >23 out on loan…

I’m really surprised with the Brighton, Norwich, and Wolves figures.

Yeah, although I think it is for different reasons. In Stoke’s case I think it is that they are moving higher waged players off their books from when they were trying to jump back into the PL. Chelsea just hold onto players until they can get what they consider a decent fee.

Have anyone watched Sepp van den Berg during his loan spell?

Although he played RB/RM, he played at very competitive level for considerable number of games. Would he possibly be our 5/6th CB next season?

Grujic with his 2nd goal for Porto this season.
