It was that thug Partey
Jota went down in that one too.
Yeah looked unfortunate, I didnāt recall there being a massive outrage against anyone for him being out for so long which is why I couldnāt rememberā¦.first time Iāve seen it since it happened, looking back at that now it doesnāt look like something that could keep one out for 6 months then again all it can take is a jarring/twist/overstretch and next minute you know youāre on the shelf counting down the days till youāre back.
Glad he got his goal and looked lively in his first half even if they tried to take his leg off.
We are managing his minutes well. Came off the bench earlier and earlier as his fitness rose and gave him the start here but hooked him early enough.
His issue was he relapsed after returning to training. It is the risk you take when you choose the āconservativeā treatment option (non-surgical) as he did and it doesnāt respond as planned.
In its own way, getting clattered by that Spurs yard dog was also an important part of reintegration. After being out for a while you have to manage the minutes and get up to speed, as mentioned above. He is looking sharper, and he even got a goal, and there is a lot more to come from Luis Diaz.
After injury, another marker - though you wish it doesnāt need to happen - is how you stand up to a bad foul, both physically and psychologically.
Donāt get me wrong, Skip should have seen red and thereās no place for that tackle in the game, but at the same time it happens.
At that point Diaz will have a bad bruise, but he overcame it and battled on.
Full credit to him. I think he is an exceptional player.
As for the refereeing, not just of Tierney, though he is awful, but on the whole in the Prem, and the sort of stuff they routinely let goā¦ it needs course correction.
Itās a hard game, and there will be contact. Bring it on. But we need better fairness, less grappling of the sort Mo gets every week, and less dangerous stuff like Diaz suffered. Refs need to improve to deal with it, and a culture change is needed in how the games are officiated, or some of the brightest stars - itās not difficult to see Diaz as being on the cusp of this - will be better advised to move to Spain to play their football in a safer environment.
Hard to judge him after two injuries this season, but last few games heās had so many basic mistakes, technically. The general love for him is I think higher than his quality. Hopefully has a clean pre-season now and he can continue where he left off last year, also improve. Not an automatic starter for me.
I think itās wrong to judge him off this spell.
You have an injury like his you arenāt going be as confident going forward.
Jota thread is an example of short term thinking.
Itās not judging off, but something that was also there a little bit before his injury. Klopp said before the summer of 2022 that thereās still work to do with him (no wonder, after 6 months then here). Now, heās been really positive when they had the winter camp in Dubai. Iām curious to see that improvement once he gets firing this summer. For some things, he should be able to do them, being in training for a while now. For me, going into next season, only Salah is the automatic starter in the front line. The rest 4 players can battle it out for 2 positions, donāt care how and who it is.
Yeah, heāll be fine. Always seemed like a streaky player to me anyway and just isnāt in his rythem yet - which is to be expected.
Gakpo is to Firmino as Diaz is to Mane.
Never really had a massive issue with him in his Ćnitial spell, missed a fair few chances but he always seemed to be up for creating, thatās what I thought Klopp was referring to.
I thought Diaz was coming along very nicely, and he was looking so threatening. Then the injury. Since then, I count the games weāve seen him in as a glorified fitness and reintegration exercise. With a good preseason under his belt hopefully he will come back strong in a refreshed forward line next season, with an improved midfield behind them.
Lucho with a goal against Germany.
Diaz has just scored a peach of a header for Colombia vs Germany.
Lovely goal.
Great cross too by Juan Alexander Cuadranold.
