Quite the night in CONMEBOL qualifying, with Diazā€™ goals being a big part of that. Argentina goes down to Uruguay (2-0 in La Bombonera no less), Brazil loses to Colombia (2-1). Not too often those two both lose on the same night. Three goals total by LFC forwards with Darwinā€™s for Uruguay.

Remember the days when we were all but shut out of South American talent?

That commentator is fucking annoying.

i thought the commentator was great,

sky sports should get there commentators to do the same when a goal is scored,

imagine Gary Neville doing it as LFC knock in no6 against Man Utd,

it would be awesomeā€¦

Iā€™d quite like to know when the last time that happened if ever, but if there were ever 2 nations who had the capabilities to beat them then it was always going to be Uruguay and Colombiaā€¦especially when theyā€™re spearheaded by Liverpool icons. No better front 3 in world football than Diaz Nunez and Salah although still think Bayern have the best collective forward options.

Good to see him respond to some criticism from Colombia lately, being decisive with goals. To score two to come from behind against Brazil in Brazil, with what heā€™s been through recently, his dad also presentā€¦ well done. Also, if Iā€™m right, his last 3 goals for Colombia were all headers.

Nice story, but the Alan Hansen in me cannot fail to comment on the awfulness of conceding a goal from a header in the 6 yard box by someone who doesnt even need to jump.

Funny thing is the other one was also a header, less obviously poor defense though. He actually had a fantastic game, causing a headache all night for Brazil and made Allisson save quite a few shots.

roll those rā€™s baby!

Liverpool have paid for a private jet to fly Luis Diazā€™s parents and wider family to Merseyside so they can spend Christmas with their son after the Liverpool strikerā€™s father was kidnapped.

Sorry but wtf canā€™t he pay for that? It may be a savvy move by the club to keep himsl sweet but there is no way he canā€™t afford to do that himself and itā€™s not like the club would do similar (even on a comparative scale) for the tea ladies or stewards.

Itā€™s good PR for the club, if itā€™s a choice between him asking for time away and pissing off a player and this then fly them over.

Not like John Henry canā€™t afford it.

If the tea lady or the steward are waking up with screaming terrors in the middle of the night, do we see it in the league table?

Players face unique stresses under an almost unimaginable level of attention, the club is trying to help him move past an exogenous one as quickly as possible. They are doing so with a magnanimous gesture that is meant to make him and his family feel utterly safe and welcome after a traumatic event. My guess is the Anfield stewards and the tea lady are delighted to be a part of that.

Is there any evidence that they wouldnā€™t?

Itā€™s a lovely gesture by the club. It would have been a lovely reciprocal gesture in return if his dad hadnā€™t then starting waxing lyrical about his son moving to Barcelona.

To be honest, there are times when I wouldnā€™t mind granting his wish by fleecing Barcelona (surely they can dig a deeper financial hole for themselves) and spending that money on a more influential left wing player. Since his injury at Arsenal, he hasnā€™t been the player that almost drove us to the quadruple in his first months here.
