Luis Diaz (LW) Barcelona

Same reason the rest have gone there, even more money.

I imagine it rarely loses its appeal no matter how much you have.

How many players have moved there though who were playing for a big club and were not being forced out because they were no longer wanted? I’m not sure I can think of any of them. Maybe the lad from Villa is the closest.

Even someone like Bruno is not that comparable to Luis because Bruno is in a shit situation and quite understandably seems to fucking hate his job. Taking a big pay bump to go and do something soulless is a very different proposition when that is your current life.

Does feel like give me a contract which is fair enough. Mind you it’s the same as what the other guy says.

Yeah a team can be interested but they need the player to want to be interested and the other club. I would rather we sell those who are surplus before we start selling first teamers.

From clubs at the very top? Very few.

But they’ve turned the heads of Neymar, Duran, Diaby, Fabinho, Neves, Toney, Laporte, Cancelo, Milenkovic-Savic, Mane, Firmino, Mahrez and probably a few more. Not all of whom might not have been at the top clubs or the peak of their powers at the time but certainly were better than the level of the Saudi league.

I’m not saying I think he’ll go there but to dismiss the possibility they could put together an offer to tempt both us and him shouldn’t be discounted.

Most of these were busted and/ or old though…

Most, not all.

It’s a good list and even being really strict, in Neves and Milenkovic-Savic there are two examples of players that refute the absoluteness of my premise - that Saudi is for players who have reached a career dead end where the pointless of it all is less of a hit because in weighing up their options they realize more big nights and competing isnt on the agenda anymore anywhere. Maybe Toney as well.

But even then I think there is a big difference between coaxing a player like Toney to Saudi when he maybe could have joined an Arsenal, vs coaxing a player away from a club where he’s already getting everything you became a footballer to experience.

Like I said, you never know really what is going on in private, so maybe. But Diaz is one of the last players I’d be concerned about given how much he appears to relish the uniqueness of what it means to be a liverpool player in a side that wins things.

Romano:

Al Nassr consider Luis Diaz as one of their main targets for the summer window to re-start with ambitious plan. Barcelona have also Luis Diaz on the list, but it depends on financial request by Liverpool. Al Nassr have Hancko and Luis Diaz among top priorities.

Fuck. Them.

Can one of you young online social hipster types read between the lines for me.

He is a very good player and top bloke. Played a decent part in our success. At his age and with an offer tabled of the values being touted, it would be hard to turn down. I do think he tends to play with his head down a lot. I remember a game towrds the end of the season (can’t remember the opposition) where he put his head down, looking directly at the ground and the through ball hit his heels. Plenty of great qualities as well, but that summed up his main deficiency.

You could equally mention all the great goals he’s scored and chances he’s created.

I could and he has. He also could have created many more if he played with his head up a bit more. We could say that about a lot of players, even Mo. If we were offered 80m or whatever figure has been talked about, it would be hard to turn down.

Love Luis Diaz, lovely player. If Barcelona have the dough, I’m sure they would make a bid that would turn our head and he would be there. In all likelihood they do not have proper money. So it is looking like the Saudis for Diaz.

Liverpool will be the peak of his playing career. He did so well here, and he won the biggest prizes the game has to offer. He saw the fans and felt the love. He did it all.

And now, if the next chapter is to be the Saudi dough, even though I don’t like them or what they stand for, I cannot begrudge a lad born in abject poverty having the opportunity to make the sort of money that will set his family up for generations.

If he goes then on our end I could see a young winger being brought in, someone fast, with a high ceiling, who can be coached and shaped by Slot, and who would not expect to play all the time just yet, as we will have Gakpo, Salah, Wirtz coming in, and two stellar fullbacks offering pace and width. In that sort of set up a player like Malik Fofana might be just the ticket.

But this is the Diaz thread. His post earlier read a bit like a goodbye, but we will see. Respect to that man. He did the lot with us.

With all of the rumors surrounding our forwards, we’re in for quite a revamping of our front line. Losing Diaz and Nunez. Gakpo getting linked with Bayern. Salah probably has one year left if he takes the Saudi money in 2026. Jota with his injury problems.

We can play Wirtz as a false nine. Chiesa and Doak (?) give us depth. Maybe Elliott stays as well. Szobo can probably play on the front line, too.

But if we sell Diaz and Nunez this summer, it makes it even more likely that we’ll have to sign a forward or two this summer.

Summoning @PeachesEnRegalia

He or his entourage has always been angling for a move to Barcelona.

Keep a price of say 90m. If Barcelona stump up the cash or come relatively close to it , he can go there.

If he’s not interested in that , either push him to sign a new contract or get him to agree to the massive saudi deal.

Diaz is earning like 30k with us and Saudi will be offering him 20 times more. Guess the transfer value will be 80-100 million pounds. This has legs in my opinion. If at all he goes we need to get say someone like Nico Williams for close to 50 million Pounds - release clause. Wont mind Gykores as a CF either.

How long more before this figure becomes 30p? Seems like each time it gets claimed here it goes down… I remember 55k was the number just a couple of days ago.
