I don’t want us to sell Diaz and Gakpo to be honest. Want Diaz to sign a new contract which he deserves. Won’t be averse to selling both Nunez and Jota for a lethal striker. Don’t want this Ekitake guy for 80-100 million as he isnt better than Nunez in my opinion.
At this point, Darwin won’t click for us.
It’s not about whether Ekitike is a better striker than Darwin. It’s about how totally shot of confidence Darwin really is.
It’s better for both parties to move on. He’s had the support of the club and the fans. And he’s likable. No question marks on his effort too. Just hasn’t delivered in terms of goal contributions (which is the key metric) and probably the change in manager didn’t help too.
Agree. We will miss either of Diaz and/or Gakpo and whatever we receive for them will have to be spent on a replacement. Darwin and Jota we can cope without.
No opinion on this. I’ll trust whoever we decide on, I just want reinforcements and more than one if we lose Diaz or Gakpo
From what i’ve read about Ekitake, he appears to be better in build up play than Darwin is, which is important to how Arne wants the team to play.
But does he understand the offside rule?
No way we’re going to sell both Gakpo and Diaz.
Salah and Gakpo are possibly the only ones from the current lot who we can say will be here 100% next season.
With Diaz, there needs to be a decision; either staying and a new contract or probably a new challenge.
If we can get and important fee and he’s open for something new, it might happen.
Wirtz would then come in with the idea of becoming a key player between the lines, either from the single #10 position or slightly from the inside left channel.
I really appreciated Diaz’s work this season in two positions, that move with him up top was part of us finding the winning or the more successful formula for attack this season.
But going forward, surely we want a new main striker and Gakpo is a younger player who has made a step forward.
Is the interest from Oil legit ?
If so , let the thread title reflect that.
???
Even if we take just the Premier League and European competition (to filter out the supposedly weaker domestic cup competitions), he’s on:
- 131.25 minutes per goal contribution in 2022-23
- 92.7 minutes per goal contribution in 2023-24
- 97.4 minutes per goal contribution in the League
- 76.5 minutes per goal contribution in the Europa League
- 158.2 minutes per goal contribution in 2024-25 (a season where he’s apparently been so shite we need to sell at any cost)
For reference Sadio Mané’s seasons in that trident:
- 112.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2017-18
- 141.3 minutes per goal contribution in 2018-19
- 109.3 minutes per goal contribution in 2019-20
- 153.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2020-21 (washed up, SELL!)
- 140.3 minutes per goal contribution in 2021-22
So, in his absolutely shite season he’s only marginally behind Mané’s worst season as part of the trident (which came when he was 28-29, supposedly his peak years, no?) and his best season is streets ahead of Mané’s.
Roberto Firmino for his trident years:
- 95.9 minutes per goal contribution in 2017-18
- 140.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2018-19
- 165.1 minutes per goal contribution in 2019-20
- 198.7 minutes per goal contribution in 2020-21
- 93.5 minutes per goal contribution in 2021-22
- BONUS: 90.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2022-23 (on drastically reduced minutes relative to his previous seasons, 1627 across the league and Champions League)
Diogo Jota, that lethal finisher:
- 118.2 minutes per goal contribution in 2020-21
- 123 minutes per goal contribution in 2021-22
- 93.1 minutes per goal contribution in 2022-23
- 81.1 minutes per goal contribution in 2023-24
- 109.6 minutes per goal contribution in 2024-25
And finally, the incomparable Mohamed Salah:
- 66.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2017-18
- 116.7 minutes per goal contribution in 2018-19
- 103.4 minutes per goal contribution in 2019-20
- 113.6 minutes per goal contribution in 2020-21
- 82.0 minutes per goal contribution in 2021-22
- 95.6 minutes per goal contribution in 2022-23
- 79.3 minutes per goal contribution in 2023-24
- 77.6 minutes per goal contribution in 2024-25
Núñez isn’t some freak of nature, and has many deficiencies in his game, but let’s not pretend it’s the lack of goal contributions that’s the problem.
160 minutes for goal contribution in the 24/25 season.
I note that you’ve mentioned firmino with his particularly bad seasons in between. But you look at the chances that Nunez has missed which in all probability, those should have been converted.
I am never not going to be a fan of Nunez. I just think he’s better served leaving. Just hasn’t worked out for us and for him.
Are you blind? Can you read? It literally says right here:
As for this:
You gloss over Mané’s rather bad seasons too, and now you’re moving the goalposts. I was rebutting your claim that, I quote once again for your benefit,
If you look at the numbers posted above, it’s not his goal contributions that’s the issue. He doesn’t even miss that many relative to the average striker either, but that’s actually part of his problem for this season. In previous seasons he was converting goals at an ordinary rate but creating so many shots for that to happen. This season, he’s shooting at half the rate he used to.
Huge difference between 158.4 and 160.
Right I read right. Have you understood right ?
So he’s regressed further this season.
It might be his increasing lack of confidence or the changes when Slot’s come in.
I think if you are more involved in build up play, you are more likely to avoid being off side?
160-158.4 =1.6
1.6x60 =96
96 seconds
You two are really gonna argue about 96 seconds?
That’s what he’s arguing about. Not me.
It’s even worse than that. Whatever source he’s using for the claim (a) probably rounded up, and (b) may have a different source for the minutes count.
I’m using Transfermarkt data, which definitely undercounts because it doesn’t add in injury time (although to be fair it’s a whole different can of worms).
Not rounding up!!!
@Sithbare I think you should apologise…
Yeah , sue me for rounding up.
The gall.
The horror.
The way I read it, he seemed to be adding it onto my post, as though he didn’t read any of the contents, especially since I contrasted it to Mané and Firmino’s worst seasons.
It wasn’t about disputing the figures. He just has a tendency to not be able to read in general.
Again a personal attack.
And then justification.
And then deflection.
Stop already
