Luis Diaz (LW) Bayern Munich

I liked him and he offered something different and I will be sad to see him go…

However I won’t be too disappointed never to hear about his dad again.

That sounds a bit weird, considering what happened to him.

What’s a few quotes about Barcelona compared to that…

Think this has almost always been their approach - see Wijnaldum for example

Its a weird one with Lucho. He always gave his all, seemingly loved his time here. Never hit the heights of Mane, but better than many attackers we have had over the years.

Sad to see him going but not down about it. Surprised hes going to Germany to be honest…always figured it’d be Spain.

Good business by the club. He wasnt worth a new deal so getting him sold and continuing the evolution is the right move. Hes the 2nd first teamer starter leave after this summer. Don’t expect any others now barring Robbo or Kostas. Any others leaving shouldnt disrupt much.

The most significant change is Wirtz because it impacts how we play and our overall tactical organization.

The rest are very targeted. Fullbacks, strikers and CD.

Not concerned whatsoever…

I suspect the objective was to get himself a fat contract to see him through to his twilight. Barca was never an option. I suspect he would have pushed for Saudi had Bayern not been there.

Not sure about Saudi…don’t think he was being greedy per say. Reckon he’d have stayed and played with us over going there.

If he pulls this off, it will be an exploit of the highest order. Until then, I think that concerns about how the team is shuffled this summer, and the impact it will have on the dressing room, are justified.

I’ll miss his energy and intensity. He was never as good as Sadio, but that says more about how good Sadio was, as Lucho was a very good winger.

The moment he started actively courting clubs this summer was the moment I wanted us to sell him. I’m glad we got a decent fee and I’m glad for Lucho that he got what he was looking for.

Best of luck in Bavaria, Lucho.

I remember a thread about this exact issue, not sure if it was a dedicated thread. My feeling was that we need to limit the changes to the starting lineup, while the squad could be much more flexible in changes. Diaz leaving just adds 1 more change to our starting lineup. We now have 4 starting changes imo.

4 from 10, as the goalkeeper is a special case, is 40%. It’s enormous.

Let’s see how it plays out.

Disagree. Fully expect his father talk about Barca again soon and pretty sure there will be rumors about him wanting to leave next summer.

I definitely see Bayern as a stopover for Lucho because Barca were never able to meet our demands (fee and terms of payment) for him.

One more thing.
Diaz has been a very good player for us but imo he never reached Manes level and even Sadios move to Bayern turned out bad. Can definitely see a repeat here.

It is a big change, I would prefer 3 at most.

True. We stood firm on a new deal and he remained committed to the cause through to the end of his deal.

Clearly Diaz is keener for that big long term deal now rather than waiting to see what he’d get if he waited it out for another couple years.

No major gripes either way but very clear now that you have to prove you’re still elite and sign a deal we’re happy with if you want to stay into your 30’s.

If Barca is a dream for him, then the best thing to do would have been stay put, run down his contract, and go on a free.

I get the view and don’t disagree in preferring less changes but sometimes it’s needed. We had to replace a player that left on a free and also had two positions in the first team that needed strengthening in left back and center forward. The extra change to the first team then is Wirtz and he’s potentially good enough that it was worth doing on top of the other needed changes.

But he’s starving here because of the low wages :joy:

It appears that Liverpool have agreed a 75m euro deal/65m pounds to sell Diaz on. Feels like he wanted to leave so we had no choice but to sell.

Gakpo is still very good on the left wing. It’s also still possible we go for Rodrygo as a replacement.

The thing is, I have a strong dislike for FC Bayern. I live here in Germany (I’m also German) and can therefore say that they are a very unsympathetic club. That’s why I would have preferred Luis Diaz to play for another club if he was leaving Liverpool FC.

not to bothered about losing Diaz tbh,

always found him to be a bit hold and cold,

When he’s good, he’s very good,

but he can also be very average, (maybe its a fatigue thing?)

wish we had got more for him though!
