If I’m totally honest without Rodgers being fired I think Firmino would have been added to that list.
Rarely have we bought under Klopp expensive flops but it was often previous to him.
Yes not all players have worked for Klopp but they have been almost all low cost bar Keita and Ox and they are more due to injury than any lack of skill or talent which both have.
Unusual for Klopp. All these were pre-Klopp except VVD and that deal would have happened in the summer but for some stupidity on our part.
The only reason this one is happening is because of circumstance. We don’t really need the player in this window, but if it’s now or never and if we were planning on bringing him in the summer, then obviously we’re going to go for it.
Think this means goodbye to Mané in the summer, which is sad, but all part of the circle of life (football)
Was going to say the exact same thing. At the time we were very much shopping a tier down from where we are these days too. Aspas and Alberto went on to have decent careers elsewhere which shows they weren’t total duds. Illori was very young and just got farmed out on loan instead of being developed. Markovic is the big one. Obviously some talent but just never able to do it consistently enough and never looked that arsed.
You wonder what they’d have been like if Klopp was in charge then or Rodgers hadn’t be so stubbornly opposed to others leading on the transfer front.
I fully understand your argument. Again, there is no evidence yet that this deal differs from how the club has done business in the past.
Decisions like this and how the credit facility etc is used are not taken in isolation. Those decisions you have disagreed with in the past, and what the club plan to do in the rest of the window or next summer are probably what has enabled the club to feel comfortable in making this move now.
Not so sure about everyone thinking Mane will leave in the summer. I bet Klopp would much rather have him than a bag of money (also not sure how much a 30/31 Mane brings- probably decent but not massive). I’m thinking Gini all over. He’ll move on eventually, but no reason to say goodbye before we need to.
Love seeing all the bangers Diaz scores on YouTube. He’ll need a few more of them to match Mane. Feel like we haven’t seen it in a while, but Mane used to get a fair few of those as well when putting either foot through the ball.
