I think he still coaches in the academy. And you’re right. Jay’s 5’7" so would probably dominate Guehi in the air.
Most of VVD’s quality comes from his brain to be honest.
Well…that, and the fact that he is a 6’5” man-mountain that runs like a deer.
Yeah, Jon Jon Kennedy used to say he was famously good with the ladies simply because he was a good listener. His dashing good looks, generational wealth and blue blood heritage were not really important.
What’s Guehi’s running like?
I have said it several times before jumping ability can be improved with specific plyometric exercises and training. Everytime I watch our players in gym none of that happens. I don’t know whether Calvert Lewin does that but he outjumped Virgil and yesterday I watched Lautario Martinez out jump significantly Thiago Silva. Jota might be able to out jump Guehi but that maybe just a natural ability but with at least 20 teams in the PL relying on set pieces and lumping balls behind us to beat the press it is imperative that all the players that we have just signed who are all short are able to jump high if not then we will see situation where Macca being given the job of marking the giant Newcastle CH. unless we can find a 22 year old with similar qualities as Van Dyke then we will have to score a lot more goals than the opposition to win games.
But why is this not an issue already?
So palace want 55m euros for Guehi? That translates to 47m pounds. We can probably haggle it down to 45m pounds. He’s on last year of deal and said he won’t sign an extension. Either way it feels like this deal will be done soon.
Seriously?
DaveOCKOP is a chancer mate, think he’s actually a banned ‘source’
Problem with VJC is he seems to take anything on social media as gospel.
What I’d like to know is why the fuck would Crystal Palace want Euros?
They are off on a European adventure this year…
that was out of order whatever was meant.
No hiding from the fact that size and physical aspects absolutely matter and they are (or were under Klopp, as most teams tried to bypass our high press by going long!) an important part of what we want(ed) in a CB, in combination with other qualities.
I feel Slot wasn’t a big fan of Ibou’s in possession game (also spoke about it near the end of the season), but quickly grew to like him as the season progressed. Once he came in for Quansah at Ipswich, he basically never looked back.
As for Guehi, yeah, as I said he might be surrounded with tall or relatively tall players around him, but the analysis and decision will certainly go deeper than looking at his height and heading stats at Palace.
Don’t we need to do that anyway?
Last time I checked, one more sufficed. However perhaps the FA have decided to change this rule too? Do perchance the rules now include a clause to the effect:
“if you’re playing in Red and your home games are played in Liverpool, then you must score ‘a lot more’ than the opposition to win; unless you have a brilliant defender, that also tap dances, sings and is a star of screen and stage, in which case one goal remains sufficient.”
He is quite decent judging by his performances for England.
Well yes we did identify good young CHs but we failed to convince them we are the club to join ie Lenny Yoro decided to to Manure and Huisjen went to RM and to find another one like those two will take longer as they are capable to be starter for our team despite their age. We have sold Quansah but he wants to play elsewhere for more game time . Guehi will give them that time as long as Van Dyke stays healthy and the Konate situation is going to linger for a while and getting a youngster with potential is going to take time Hato maybe?
