If we can get him for a decent price, I can see why we’d be interested in him as a back up. Nice to replace a home grown option in the squad too if we are letting Quansah or Gomez go.
Things I like about Guehi; personality (almost Kantesque, very humble and normal), ability to play both CB sides, pace, calmness on the ball, ability to cover anywhere in defence.
Short term he could push Konate and potentially replace him next summer if Ibou is set to go. Long term, he might be a better version of Gomez.
Pretty sure the club is well aware of his height and ability in the air, so let’s talk a bit deeper than the lazy “he’s short” shouts.
I can understand why he’d be high on our list of choices.
Less the sentiment and more where he decided to write the message I think but I also leave it to others to decide if that makes him an asshole or not. He won’t be the first or last very religious player we sign, if we do sign him.
I’m more than happy to have players with religious beliefs. I’m more than happy to accommodate any particular rituals that they may have. I draw the line at them disrespecting others beliefs and choices. Aside from anything, it shows a distinct lack of faith.
The question is whether he is worth it. The problem starts when individuals get themselves suspended or disrupt the rest of the squad.
Regards his aerial ability, he’d receive some protection in a back three, especially next to Virg and Ibou. We’re probably too scant of centre-backs for a back three to be the grand plan next season, but I see us rolling with it now and then.
