Yeah, we’d have some tall players around him. Virgil (or Konate), Bradley grew, Gravenberch also. Question mark if he would start with Gomez in some games, but that could be very rare.
Guehi is definitely an upgrade on Gomez (after all the injuries) and Quansah and might even be better than Ibou in some areas (stat guys where are you?).
He’s alright I guess.
Feels a bit like a move of convenience more than anything else. But I guess he’s a more developed player than Quansah and has a better injury record than Gomez. And, even if he’s not a long term solution he’s reliable enough to do a good job when needed.
The homegrown status and the amount left on his contract obviously have added appeal for us. I figure it frees us up a bit more on our PSR position if we’re getting to account for 100% of the Quansah fee now but any fee for Guehi is spread over five years.
And I doubt we get to a place where the Quansah deal looks practically signed and sealed without having our replacement equally close to being wrapped up.
If we sign him: He is a good player with high ceiling.
If we don’t sign him: Phew, bullet dodged.
Holy goalie
I have literally nothing to say but the period he was in my fantasy team he was decent.
He was England’s best performer at the last Euros imo and is probably the best English CB available on the market, definitely an upgrade on Quansah. Imagine it will all move pretty quickly now given how far down the road the Quansah deal is.
Can we call him Gooey?
If so, buy.
If he comes in its more than likely for me Konate leaves, with another less high profile but more experienced cb coming in gor Quansah.
Yep and nobody cared because they were all really good.
Until Fabinos legs went and then was a stick to poke him with
Vid from 9 months ago when it looked like he’d move to Newcastle, but nice analysis of Guehi, from that man Adam Clery:
It could be selection bias where he only does videos about players he fancies, but I dont think I’ve ever seen him have a “he’s shit, mate. Avoid” take
He does highlight the aerial weakness aspect tbf.
But yeah, I think he’s mainly a positive guy who likes talking about positive things, which is quite refreshing. I assume there’s a lot of players he doesn’t rate, he just chooses not to focus on them.
Yeah would want to pay less for Guehi in his last year of contract than we get for Quansah. Hopefully we have a buyback/sellon clause for Quansah too.
He’s fast, aggressive, and decent on the ball. He is experienced too, but still a good age with years to come. He would be an upgrade on Quansah. Bring it on. So long as the money doesn’t get silly. If it does, teach them a lesson and pick him up on a free next summer.
It gives us some insurance while we see what happens with Konate, and then longer term, look at our options for a kingpin for when Van Dijk is finished. But we are a ways from that yet.
