The club have shown on a few occasions that they would rather lose a player on a free than introduce the idea of release clauses into our business.
Trent got pulled to pieces for not doing that “So what’s good for the goose is good for the gander”

Looks like we are playing hardball. Take our money or he will leave for free.
So we don’t want to give Konate what he wants but we’ll happily accept a lowball fee for him and lose our CB winning partnership? How does that 1 work out then.
Thats Sky rehashing everything thats out there already. Since the rise in social media Sky as any sort of authority on rumours has long since diminished.
Looks like the Guehi situation is getting sticky.
Looks like Guehi is calling Palace bluff.
Agree. This all just feels like posturing from the various parties. I think this still gets done.
No chance we let Konate go without having time to find a replacement and Guehi is not his replacement neither is Leoni.
We might if they pay £100M.
I’m not so sure about that, tbh. I also thought we were planning to loan Leoni out again. I can’t believe we want to have five defenders in the squad. I wouldn’t mind at all, but I doubt it. It would be too good to be true.
In terms of how realistic that is though it’s in the same category of us finding out Ibou is actually Jack the Ripper and we have to release him to distance ourselves from the PR nightmare of having been playing a 150 year old notorious serial killer.
5 with one being a physically challenged versatile option who is maybe as likely to fill in at RB as CB, and the other a kid with 20 top flight appearances and who would benefit from just watching how its done for a year before being asked to carry a big responsibility. It seems to me the right number and balance given the overall defensive situation.
So if he is asking 500k a week we just pay it.
But we know he isn’t
We have no idea what he is asking for nobody does other than 2 parties his camp and the club.
I agree but I don’t believe it will be like that. That would be too reasonable.
We either sell him now and look for another CB in addition to Guehi and Leoni, or we wait until the winter window and do the same.
The plus to doing it now is we likely get a bigger fee. The plus for waiting until winter is that we get Ibou for five months, giving the club time to bed in Guehi and Leoni, and to scout another CB to buy.
But I don’t think letting him leave on a Bosman is a good idea.
It’s going to be interesting!
I hope we sign both Leoni and Guehi, and Konate signs a new deal. If Konate does not sign a new deal - and if we make a third offer on generous terms then it looks like we have more than done our part - then it’s a toss up for me as to whether or not to sell this window.
Keep a very good player to help us achieve our objectives this season, even it is means he leaves on a free next summer? I see the logic in that.
Or sell a very good player this window, since he hasn’t signed a deal, and reinvest the dough on players who see their future here? I see the logic in that, too.
Guess we will see what happens…
Absolutely. If we are contemplating spending 35m on Guehi in his last year of his contract, we aren’t entertaining offers for Konate for anything approaching what Real would pay (way over 50m), plus we have to then get another defender. Would make more sense to let Konate go next summer, sign Guehi at same time and get another defender (ready to play like Collins) now. That way we get another year out of Ibou, Guehi comes with a full preseason and Collins etc has had a year to adjust.
