Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

At what point does Guehi take his career in his own hands?

It seems Palace were the clown club hoping to let the clock tick down and not Newcastle who it seemed like for a while.

I can imagine them discussing it til 7.30 tonight. And go oh diddums never mind.

Exactly this!!! can’t always play nice; this football business shit is cutthroat

Palace have known for weeks, this move was going to happen. They decided to leave it until today to get a replacement. It’s their mess.

When his contract runs out next summer?

We don’t often (ever?) go back in for players who turn us down the first time.

And that’s what Glassner is exploiting. I’ve never seen a player be so ready to acquiesce against his own interest

I get your point and yes a year from now he might not get the deal to us that’s true but he is hardly sitting there on a long term contract and never going to get a move elsewhere. When his contract runs out he’ll still be a homegrown option and he’ll be on a free. He’ll have someone want him.

According to Sky, palace ownership want the deal done because they cannot afford to let him walk for free; however, the fear is Glasner might walk if that happens as he is quiet angry

Well Glasner said last night he expected a replacement at the beginning of the window to be line up. This is a ownership fuckup at Palace

Quiet angry is the worst kind of angry.

Risky move to keep Guehi and have him to go on a free just to avoid upsetting Glasner. He might leave for another job even if they keep Guehi.

Glasner might walk. But Palace have to ask themselves how locked in he is anyway. If he keeps doing well a bigger club will want him. He won’t show any loyalty to Palace at that point. Arguably he has done well enough already, and there’s a potential move to be made to Leverkusen right now, as they have sacked Ten Hag.

A club at Palace’s level should not face losing 35M due to the threat of a manager who is likely passing through anyway.
