Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

He’s crap at headers anyway.

I reckon we get him, and I reckon he starts over 30 games for us next season. Ibou picks up a fair amount of injuries, and Virgil could us some rest games if we’re to compete on all fronts through the end of the season.

Again - if he ends up taking over the starting role from Konate, then that’s still a win in my eyes.

I think another factor is Konate’s contract situation, and how much Slot wants to favour a player he’ll lose at the end of the season anyway.

Trent started until the title was won. Didn’t start after. Same rule will apply to Konate assuming he goes.

We don’t know that yet for sure. Trent’s situation shows that the possibility of him leaving for free next summer might not play a part at all. If Slot thinks he should remain a regular starter and he merits it, that’ll be it.

Given Bradley’s injuries throughout the season we rarely had a proper alternative. I don’t see it being the same as having a choice between Konate and Guehi.

Trent also didn’t confirm he was leaving until when the title was already won, he was stringing the club along for months. That experience will probably play a part in the club seeking a firmer answer from Konate.

Confirmation or no confirmation, when your player gets so close to the end of contract, you are at least aware of the possibility that he might leave. Behind the scenes, it’s also highly likely you already have some signals if it’s going in that direction. The club is not stupid, they would’ve known by the time Trent told them.

I’d also be careful about that “guarantee” bit from the media. Who knows if that’s what Guehi wants. There’s guarantee and there’s high probability. In my opinion, he doesn’t need any guarantees. Come in and compete. Might still have enough game time to be in the England squad. You don’t have to be too intelligent to see our situation at CB.

Slot will I think objectivelly pick the team that merits starting, as it was the case with Trent, Virgil, Salah. Tomorrow it could be Konate, Diaz, whoever. Like most coaches.

Feel free to take a day off occasionally from jumping in to disagree with everything I say. It’s starting to fuck me off, honestly.

:joy:

Disagreeing over something, so what.

We probably agree on many other things.

This is ALWAYS what is actually the case when the press report the player is looking for “guarantees”

Guehi was always a ?? for me, if he is insisting on plenty of playing time you would have to wonder ,what next?
The manager/Head Coach must have the ability to pick the best team for any given game, and therefore my concern would be, how before more incoming players would want similar assurances. Can’t see it being workable, love to know what Slot’s view is!

If you demand to be first choice then sorry - no. This is Liverpool.

Come and fight for a place at the best club in the world…. Or go take promises and money from the likes of Chelsea.

Show some balls.

He may start loads of matches.
With VVD and Konate.
Frimpong and Kerkez as wing backs.
It just might be an alternative, given Virgil “slowing down” and Guehi not able to head a ball.
It’s not really the way I think we will play, but Slot has shown that he can change shap in game. Having a CB that can play out of defence is another serious weapon.

Agree with this but i would honestly swerve this player if this part is true.

He is a good player in a mid level team.

He is a player in a national team that is not as good as they think they are .

And if true , he is demanding (if he signs ) to be starting every match for the premier league champions?

He can go to united with that attitude.

He is looking for plenty of playing time, not demanding to be a starter. There is a subtle difference. In some ways its important that he has ambition and confidence to be playing at the highest level.
