Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

Do a competition in front of the Kop.

Riise putting crosses in with a medicine ball, Nat vs Guehi.

Who stays conscious the longest, gets a contract. We all know the winner.

:sob: :joy:

It will be Guehi because he can’t head it!

The way the Echo and TIA put it it looks like Guehi wants to join Liverpool but by saying he is staying another year to leave on a free, he forces CP to lower their fee to a more agreeable level for Liverpool.

If we can get him for 30-40m seeing as he’s in the last year of his contract , that’s a win.

Palace probably have little choice in this.

Think concerns with his aerial ability are being overstated. Yeah, he’s not elite levels like van Dijk but he’s consistently in the 50-55% win range.

Dean Huijsen was about 60% last season. Saliba is in that 55-60% range at Arsenal. Gomez isn’t a million miles different most seasons. We’re talking a difference of him winning 5-10 more headers a season, or one every 3-6 games to be up into that upper 50 to early 60 range. It’s peanuts in real terms.

Considering his height you could argue he’s actually pretty good compared to players who have a few inches advantage on him.

Friday - Guehi rumours.
TAN - He’s great, but can he head the ball?

Saturday - Guehi wants guaranteed playing time.
TAN - How dare he? He can’t even head the ball!

Sunday - He really wants to come to Liverpool.
TAN - Good lad, his heading is actually quite good for a bloke of his size.

Also if he went for 35 -40 mil you would have the fans moaning we should have been all over that.

We can make Guehi say anything we want when he is silent.

I’ll get us started.

His armband proved he was a…

Think this is a lot closer than we think. With Q off I’m sure we are postering appropriately to drive down price. Looks like we may be getting better at “get player to say only us before final negotiations” tactic

Tbf, we’ve been pretty good at that from when Edwards became director of football.

We should buy Guehi…and Diomande…

What the story on Diomande? Should we just skip Guehi, cut out the middle man and bring him in on the cheap?

That’s what I would do. Sign Diomande. Very good player.

Mind you, I rate Guehi too, and he is Prem proven and knows what the league demands. Still, I think Diomande would be up to speed quickly.

It’s tempting in this case for what is really a 4th choice CB role to buy potential (which is what Quansah really was) in someone who is good enough to fill in for injuries. Of course I have the problem that I had never heard of Diomamde before I read this today.

The attraction of Guehi is that he is possibly good enough to move ahead of Joe in the pecking order.

To fit Diomande into our squad, we would need to sell another player who doesn’t count as home grown to make room for him in the squad. Guehi wouldn’t cause this problem.

This isn’t a problem in other positions we are looking to buy for because we’ll be selling a non homegrown player to make room. So for Kerkez, one of Robertson or Kostas goes and both are non homegrown. For a striker we will likely sell Nunez.

Diomande is the type of signing that you’d immediately loan back so wouldn’t be an issue for the immediate season.
